mommyrkr
My dad worked at the hospital here in my town when I was growing up, and they had a case of death by water intoxication. I knew it was possible. But the doctors said you have to be trying to take in too much water. We would never be able to do that by accident. They had purposely "overdosed" on water. So don't have a water drinking contest, but do drink lost of water. I believe the level of toxicity was like 200 oz during a 6 hour period or something. It was clear that no normal person would do that. Oh, and if you have to pee...then go pee. It seems so simple to me! Interesting idea though, sure caught me off guard when I first heard it. Littleroo27
I didn't look at the article, but from what I understand, that can happen when the salt levels in your body become too low from drinking way too much water. It's really really hard to do! In fact, with IBS if you drink too much water you just end up spending the night in the bathroom with bad cramps. I did that once in college during a "drinking" game. I don't drink, so I had a gigantic mug of water and downed too much of it - UGH. http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/01/13/water.intox.ap/ THE SECTION WITH: PREVENTION OF WATER INTOXICATION WAS AN INTERESTING READ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication

They do this to feel "drunk", to drown out their meds, and to attempt suicide. i have to put patients on "water restrictions" all the time. just something you would never think of...pure, clean, wonderful H2O causing such a mess! Becki That is a liter of water every hour. The same amount as was in the IV bags we got at the clinic. Most people that experience water intoxication are taking lithum for schizophrenia, that I have seen.
Littleroo27
IV bags have saline in them though, which keeps your electrolites from tanking. That is a liter of water every hour.
