Coughing

Recommended Posts

Hi to all!

Just wondering if anyone has had any problems with coughing. It feels like a tickle in my throat and just makes me cough like crazy. I have even coughed up some food at times. The only way I can get any sleep is sitting up most of the night. This is so annoying. I think I read something about this on one of the forums but can't remember exactly what was said. Would appreciate any info you might have.

I was banded the end of November 2005 and have lost 81 lbs. Not bad eh!!!

Sounds like allergies to me...

I had this problem before I got banded. Allergies were causing my nose to drip just a bit and it was going down my throat while I slept. The coughing was my body's attempt to keep the liquid out of my lungs. Doc gave me some Nasonex and it's no longer a problem.

I just did a search to see if others had this problem and found the above post by "bleenstra."

I just had my lap band surgery on Monday, January 22nd. I have had a terrible cough since. I do notice it seems to be worse when I lie down, but still have it when I'm upright. It does not feel like a cold or allergies. It feels like a dry spot or a little tickle, but even cough drops, drinking fluids, etc do not help. I wondered how much may be related to being intibated during surgery, and my esophagus healing from any minor trauma from that- but it's 5 days out now, I don't feel improved. (I did also have a hietal hernia repaired during the surgery, which I didn't know I had, which the doctor figured was from carrying my twins this last year.... not sure if that could have anything to do with the coughing because of the location of the hernia....???)

Also, Bleenstra: I would be interested to know if you have had any improvement in your coughing. Also congrats on losing 81 pounds so quickly! That is remarkable! I would love to know what you have been doing. That is absolutely fabulous!
