Kellie/Iowa
Hi everyone, I have a question, I had my first fill on 2/21, and it was a good fill, my question is how much food should I be able to eat? I can eat about 3 bites of solid food and then I'm done, so I have been eating alot of soups and doing a slim-fast shake in the morning because if I just stick to the solid foods I will eat VERY little (like under 600 calories/day). If I can stay healthy on 600 calories a day then I will go back to just my 3 bites of solid foods, but I think that I need more in order to lose weight the healthy way. I am trying to get around 1200 calories a day. Is my fill too tight, or is this normal? Thanks Kellie

I'm from Iowa City, Iowa, and I'm getting banded April 3rd. Did you go to Mexico, and if so, who does your fills? Hope to hear from you soon! I am trying to get around 1200 calories a day. Is my fill too tight, or is this normal? Thanks Kellie In my opinion, anything less than 1000 calories per day is starvation. Yes, many of us have days we may be under 1000 calories, but those days should be the exception, not the norm. Beyond that, it is individual, with factors being metabolism, activity level, etc. And, starvation mode can actually PREVENT weight loss. If I were in your situation, I would eat what solids you are able to. If your intake is under 1000 calories per day, I would supplement with protein shakes and other liquid nutrition. In other words, do not choose between liquids or solids, but instead find a proper combination that meets your calorie intake goals. Just my opinion. Kellie/Iowa
Thanks for the advice. Donna I live in Eldora and go to Sartori Hospital in Cedar Falls, to Dr. Glascock, actually Angie his PA does the fills. I have had one fill and am very satisfied w/ it. I went to Tijuana and had the surgery 1/4/07, the reason for that is I do not have insurance and wouldn't meet the surgical requirements if I did. The price for a fill in Cedar Falls is $390 if paying cash, then you have to have a consultation before the fill which is $300 and up depending on how much time Angie actually spends w/ you. I haven't gotten that bill yet. Any other questions just let me know. Greg/NE I thought I was pretty much on track, but I am going to try to stick more to solids and not choose the liquid/soft stuff over the solids as often. Thanks Kellie/Iowa

I'm having my surgery in TJ too. Is the $390 with or without flouro? There are a couple of drs in Chicago that do fills too. One charges $275 for a fill with flouro. How do you like the band so far, and how was your experience in Tijauna? I'm excited, but nervous. Donna

Kristy5567
Just for eveyone's information, I went to www.obesityhelp.com, and clicked on find a bariatric surgeon, and then your state, and it lists all of the doctors for your state, and start calling... I found a group of doctors that I am doing follow up care with, that have offices on both sides of the state, and their prices are great, as well as their creditials, experience, and the staff at their office that I have spoke to... Good luck in finding your follow-up care/fill dr... Kristy

GregNE
THIS IS WHAT I TRY AND FOLLOW:http://ezinearticles.com/?How-Many-Calorie...ht?&id=6723 Excellent link! That sums up my whole non-starvation approach. By the way, the article recommends 500 calorie per day reduction. 500 calories x 7 days=3500 calories. A pound of fat is 3500 calories. So, that equates to 1 lb per week, for those that may not know. The article talks about the 'body furnace' as well. Even though I am very restricted in the morning, I try to eat something shortly after waking, even if it is a protein shake. The body requires calories to burn calories. We'll see if anybody has used them or not and if they would recommend them. Sorry, just noticed the post! I can't remember if this one was near Chicago, (Downers Grove), but he is in IL. His name is Dr. Vitello. The fee without fluoroscopy is $75, assuming he can get access to your port without xray. If he needs xray the fee is $150 plus the hospital bills you $125 for the use of xray. ($275) AND: Surburban Surgical Care (n.w. Illinois) 888-639-7353 $250 I don't know anything else about them. Kellie/Iowa
Thanks for the info! I'm having my surgery in TJ too. Is the $390 with or without flouro? Donna Donna, Yes, the $390 is w/ fleuro, which I always will want, and the Dr. had to poke me several times before she could access my port, she said when they(the surgeon and her at Sartori Hospital) put the port in they put it on the side and not more towards the middle like ours are, but she did numb me before trying to access the port, so that was not a problem. I had my first fill of 2cc on 2/21 and now it is 4/3 and I have lost 20# since that fill, YAE! The good thing is I think I will only need the one fill. Btw, I see you were scheduled for surgery today, I'm sure everything went well, and you will be doing great in no time. Good luck.
