dreamhappy07
Well, I am supposed to stop smoking by now. Surgery May 21st. Can't seem to get my act together. Oh yes! I know it is necessary to help with lung function and breathing before, during, and after surgery. I am going to quit, but with my weight loss so far, and stopping smoking...kind of a super tough situation. I don't smoke that much. I have cut way back actually. But probably doesn't matter because it isn't quitting. :-? Any suggestions or advice or whatever support here would be much appreciated. Peace, Judy
QueenOfChunk
I don't know if this would be advice. But I can tell you I thought I was going to have a melt down during my preop diet. My body was craving caffeine... I love coffee and drink about a pot a day! I quit smoking a long time ago but with the caffeine cravings came some nicotine cravings that i hadn't had in a very long time then on top of it I was starving for food!! I had a caffeine headache, hunger pains and I wanted a cigarette. The thing is, I go tomorrow!! FINALLY!! But I haven't lost all my preop weight. (8 pounds) I hope I don't get in trouble. I cut back on everything good in my life!! It is hard. I can't wait to be done with this pre-op diet and just be banded. Anyway, just wanted to let you know you're not alone....and I needed to vent! Thanks for listening. You can do it.

Thanks for listening. You can do it. Hiya Queen, No problem...vent anytime you want. I am a good listener. I know I can quit smoking, but worried about the hunger and gaining weight back before surgery. On my pre-op diet, I WOULD NOT give up coffee. I had non-fat, SF coffee/mochas. I wasn't cheating, but satisfying my caffeine need without feeling guilty. I was never told to give up coffee anyways. I know alot of things will change after surgery, but for now, I will enjoy what I can as lot as isn't hurting my weight loss success! Good luck with your surgery...I wish mine was as close as yours. I am so ready! Congrats!! Peace, Judy

Peace, Judy I quit several years ago with Wellbutrin...it was amazing. I would think "hmm do I want to go outside and smoke or wait?" and I would choose to wait, and then I would try to keep 'waiting' until I just quit going!!! I did replace the hand to mouth with popsicles (lots of them) but it was actually quite amazing how easy it was...whatever you choose good luck...also (that was 3 years ago and I still take the Wellbutrin-I like the way I feel happy and positive about life on it)

mhuges
Chantix is one of those medicines which help in getting over smoking habit, but this medicine has some side effects as well. Person using chantix mainly encounter sleeplessness, change of taste and headache, but these side effets diminish with time. So people should consult there physician before going for this medicine. http://www.chantixhome.com/
Trav
Smoking also inhibits proper healing functions. Though admittedly I didn't omit nicotine completely. (ya might wanna switch to some nicotine gum or something.)

Hello, I had no intentions of quitting smoking before or after surgery six months ago, but I did go the two weeks prior with only about 5 cigarettes. I had ever intention of taking it back up after surgery, but let me tell you--when you've got gas pockets, smoking only makes it worse by inhaling more air! I quit by default and must have gone through withdrawls while I felt like shit from the surgery, so I never noticed it. By the time I felt stronger, I had quit and I don't really miss it. I had a couple of drinks with friends last week and I thought I wanted a cigarette--I never realized how bad they taste after having a drag! Nope, I think I've quit! Good luck--
