pelle'sscared
Hey, I was wondering if everyone had to go on the only liquids diet one week prior to surgery? Or if it's just me because of my high bmi? People that I have talked to here in Washington state that have had the surgery haven't had too. katie 5'9", 309lbs 25 yrs overweight forever surgery sept. 14th

mgewton
Hi I think It's because your over 300lbs. Thats why you have to go on the liqued diet. Melissa
lah34
Hi Katie, I will be having my band placed by Dr. Ortiz on the 13th of Sept. Hope to see you there! I remember reading if you are greater than 300 lbs, you have to go on a liquid diet. Good luck with everything. Are you as excited and scared as I am? pelle'sscared
Hi, thank you everyone. Lah34, yah I'll probably see you there! I am very nervous, mostly about sticking to my post op, and pre op diet. Well, I take that back I am nervous about everything. I'm bringing my mom, who can tell me to chill out if I start to get anxious. I'm lucky my mom is so supportive. I am an extremely pessimistic person....so usually I feel if something can go wrong it will. I struggle with this feeling everyday, and just try to stay grounded, and take one thing at a time. I hope my answer didn't bum you out. I am 25, mixed (black and white), with long dark brown curly hair, my mom is in her 50's with really long straight white hair. If you see us say hi. Where are you from? Katie
Angie0316
When I had my surgery in April 2005, Dr Ortiz explained that the diet prior to surgery is to shrink your stomach for the surgery so that the band will fit. Hope this helps.
