dreamhappy07
( I am getting to the point where I cannot take the feeling of starving anymore. Also, starting to regret this surgery. People are barbequing for the holiday, and I sit here trying to figure out what to drink, and not eat! I know it will get better, but I am trying not to fall apart and cry because I am so HUNGRY! I am being good though so far I think. I know that alot of people have gotten to this point and can't take it anymore and eat something that they suffer for dearly. I refuse to throw up or PB, but I am soooooo hungry! Sometimes I think that maybe the reason why I am so hungry is that my pouch has healed enough to try the next step of food. Then I realize, NO! my stomach is still swollen. I am not healed yet. ARGH!!! Thanks for letting me cry on my computer keyboard since I don't have a shoulder to cry on. HONEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why haven't you called me girl? I was waiting for you to heal and hadn't gotten an email from ya, so I was figuring you were super busy or something? Listen, feeling hungry IS TOTALLY WHAT I DID TOOOOOOOOOOOO! The weekend you were getting ready for TJ I was such a freak for food that I was watching THE FOOD NETWORK like crazy. I felt like I could eat my own foot off if it had some bar-b-que sauce on it! Seriously hungry..........but then, on the 7th day forward~ for some reason it became easier. I think for me, it was like a 'detox' stage for the carbs and sugar and soda or something like that? I don't think I will be moving to the mushy food stage for awhile. I am trying to be in the liquid protein stage so that I can continue to drop weight......... 29 lbs so far as of since I began my pre-op diet........ I love that my pants are falling off! So THAT makes it easier to deal with having my family eating Guiseppe's Pizza in front of me while I sip on minestrone BROTH only......... yikes. It's been 15 DAYS since my surgery.........Trippy. I've been a good girl. P-b'd ONCE and it sucked! It was the weekend I was being a fiend for food! It was on like a mushy baby food deviled ham deal. I needed meat so bad, but NEVER will I do that again. I went right back to the broth stage and started over from there. Today I went and bought Dannon Drinkable Immunity, blueberry and strawberry flavored..........YUMMMMMMY STUFF SISTA! And more miso soup, cuz I looooooooove it! Yellow curry soup was wonderful too on Saturday, but has ooooodles of sugar and sodium in it, so I looked like someone beat my face in on Sunday at church(VERY puffy) AND I gained one pound, so just say NO to curry soup for me from now on........... Liquid Centrum is also making me feel better...............Have you tried it? When I felt like a wilting flower by the time I got back from TJ that was just the pick me up I needed, vitamin wise..........Ya know? Good stuff, but tastes/smells terrible! You are so not alone in questioning your level of hunger........... I/we all get it........... When the paper in TJ said be careful of mental hunger for one week, that cracked me up.....Thinking my mind has complete control over my growling and starving stomach then, cuz I WANTED FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! ( Love ya Patootie! Shoot me an email when you can! Cheryl
Bamaslady
When did you have your surgery? Tomorrow will be a week for me and I have been starving also. The nurses kept telling me that I had head hungers but I don't think that head hungers make my stomach growl. I know what starving feels like and that's how I feel also. I decided that I could not take the clear liquids another day so I ate some watered down cream of chicken soup (I did not eat the chicken pieces) but I feel so much better now. Also, I bought some sugar-free popsicles and I feel like they are a treat. They make me feel like a kid again. I was hoping someone else was starving because everything that I have seen posted...nobody says they are starving. I am glad I read your today. Yesterday, my daughter was confirmed at church and my mother-in-law had a big barbeque for the family. I had to sit there with shoulder pain from the gas and sip some soup. It was miserable! There was chips n dip (my favorite), barbeque and all of the fixins including cake! So...believe me...I feel your pain!
Donna34
Ladies, this part is SOOOO hard. I know exactly how you feel! But this too shall pass! And it will be SO WORTH IT. You know that already, but those words fall flat when your STARVING huh? Just hang in there. You'll be back to solids before you know it, and then you can EAT again. It will be so worth knowing that you let everything heal like it needed too. Experiment with those soups as much as possible in the meantime! Good Luck! dreamhappy07
AWWWW....Thank you all for the kind words of support and encouragment. It really means alot to me. I will be ok, but it is HARD. I think by next week or the week after I can start on solids, but to be honest, it scares me. I don't want to be one of those people that forget to take little bites and chew, chew, chew your food to mush. NEVER want to PB or throw up either. Of course, my teeth are really ticked at me for not having anything but gum occasionally to chew...LOL Thanks again and good luck to all! Karmelbaby1
And here I thought is was me. Hello I am new to this site. I just had the lapband surgery on May 22nd and I am dying for something to eat. It doesn't help any when I see all these cooking shows making all these juicy meals. #-o Oh well, I will be ok with alot of prayer because some nights I just want to roll over and have me a good greasy burger, but I know that is not realistic...lol > It's has been 7 days since my surgery so next Tuesday will be my 2 week mark. Hopefully eating my yogurt, oatmeal, and refried beans all no fat of course will help with my hunger. All I need is some support from others who are going through the same thing as me so I won't break down and cry myself to sleep at night. LoriBecky
Judy, if you do forget you'll have a reminder that you need to eat more slowly and chew chew chew... it hurts when food gets stuck! I still haven't PB'd (knock on wood) but I work very hard not to get food stuck because it doesn't feel good!!! Make sure you are taking in plenty of fluids, it really does help! Remember, this is a process, not a quickie fix. Be patient with the band and yourself. You both need time to get used to each other and play nicely LOL It does get better - we are all here for you! imworthit
Yeah, I figured it was something I would get into trouble doing..............SO....last nite, what I did was I put a can of 'lentil and sausage soup' in the blender along with a can of diced tomatoes~ and pureed it into liquid............ NOT ONE CHUNK of anything in it............I didn't drain the tomatoes before adding it into the blender, so that it would 'water down' the soup.......It was GOOD! I ate like 1/2 cup of it cold, and even tho it sounds disgusting it was wonderful!!!!! Just to have another taste in my mouth beyond protein shakes was the bomb! *hubby didn't want to take a bite, as it looked awful, but finally relented and said it tasted like pizza!* HA!! I want to start some sort of cookbook for lapband patients............ P'bing is nothing nice and it's dangerous for us who have no recourse in the U.S. if we slip our band..... We need some ideas on *LIQUID FOOD WONDERS* to help during this phase of transition from broth to drinkable Dannon to solids......... I like that we can all share on here..........These forums are exactly what us newbie banders need to discover and share and learn from each other!!!! ttys......... Hey Cheryl has your doctor released you to start do some exercising yet? Karmel Yes, I am able to walk DAILY...........I think most of us were advised to do this from the get go...........To me, THIS IS exercise! As I have never done any cardio for like 18 years............I am also very excited to do this Ab Crunch Dance exercise program in 3 months............. That stuck in my mind that sit-ups and crunches were 3 months out from having the surgery, and I believe they said 3 weeks out for the exercise bike.........I am planning on calling to confirm exactly when I can get on my bike. (Yes, all these years it has been a rack for my clothes to dry, and a place for dust to collect) I heard that Weight Watchers sells a pedometer that can be set from walk mode to exercise walk mode and back to regular walk mode and calculates all kinds of cool things! I want one! $30.00 only! Woo hoo.............. Take care! Cheryl

tncountrygirl42
Hey , Judy. This is Elizabeth we were banded on the same day. Sorry that you are having alot of problems. God knows that I have too. Let me tell you how hungry I am... LOL. I fixed dinner for my husband and daughter. I had cooked some smoked pork chops which taster like ham... I was a dog.. I was so hungry I took my husband bone after he ate the meat and suck on the bone...LOL.. MAN WAS THAT SO GOOD< JUST TO TASTE SOMETHING I WANTED.. My husband died out luaghing.. He said now that is bad. But I tell you it was soooo good the just taste what I couldnt have. Needless to say I haven't done it again, but I just had to have a different taste than soup. I have been week and cried to myself cuase I WANT FOOD! BE strong , because I we have one more week to eat some food. ( I am getting to the point where I cannot take the feeling of starving anymore. Have you seen the posts from luv2dive(Nicole) and iowagal(Beth)? I heard about your trip for your first fill with Beth. That is great! I so wish I could join you both, but financially it is too much. Maybe on my next fill. I have a fill doc here that costs $180 for the first fill and $165 for every fill after that. But, she doesn't use flouro, so I definitely want to go to TJ for one of my fills just to make sure all is good with my band with flouro. You are so funny! I would have done the same thing with that pork chop bone. LOL I actually did something very risky myself, but I had control. I put a chunk of bread in my mouth and chewed it up and then spit it out. Gross I know. I did the same thing will a chunk of a cookie. I knew that that would never have gone down anyway, because just by trying to chewing it to mush, it was still so dry. Other times, I just chew a piece of gum. I know so well that I am strictly not allowed to swallow solid foods that I don't and have control. Almost makes me wonder if when I finally am allowed to eat and swallow food, will I remember how? LOL I am running out of options for soups and so on. Getting very old very fast. I got a box of Healthy Choice fudge bars and they taste so rich and creamy that it feels like cheating. But they have no sugar, and have protein and low fat and calories, so to me, it's ok to eat. I ate a ready-to-eat velvety potato soup yesterday and it had little chunks of potatos in it. I mushed the pieces of potato in my mouth before swallowing, and never had a problem. I can't wait to eat solid foods. I feel sooo ready right now, lke I have no restriction and can handle whatever soft foods I want, but I know we have one more week. Take care, Judy
Kim927
Hi, I just read some of your posts on here, and like the others that have posted, thought I'd let you know that most of us have gone through much of the same thing. I had my surgery on 12/12/06, and had a houseful of company that came for Christmas on 12/19. That meant I had to do all the shopping and COOKING for the holidays! I've always had the holidays here and everyone looks forward to their favorites and I like making them, but there were times when it was pretty difficult when I was on the liquid diet stage! I think keeping busy helped a lot, as everyone would sit down to eat, I'd just get busy cleaning up the kitchen. Once I could have thicker liquids, I didn't find many that I liked, so I put some of the other lower calorie ones in the blender until they were liquified and added extra water, then heated them, worked pretty good and gave me many more options. I even put a little bit of refried beans in the blender to liquify them once and added quite a bit of water so they were pretty runny, but I wouldn't do that too often, you can just imagine what a diet of refried beans would do to your system!! I dug out an old cup I got years ago when I had gone on the nutri-systems program (back when they had clinics like Jenny Craig). I like to use it because it says on it "NOTHING TASTES AS GOOD AS BEING THIN FEELS!" I keep reminding myself that when I want something really bad and it's really true and usually helps me keep my goal in mind, although I'd rather it said "healthy" instead of "thin", but then who am I kidding, I'd love to be thin again!. I haven't been perfect by far, but in 6 months I've lost 38 lbs., sometimes it fluctuate within a couple pounds. I need to go get my second fill and will soon, and would have liked this number to have been higher, but I'm still very glad I have my band and would go through all this again in a heartbeat. Hang in there honey, and best of luck to you! Kim

I just had to avoid situtations where there was food in the begining and sometimes still do or make a fast exit!! As far as your being hungry, keep with the liquids. They do fill you up but they don't last long. I was eating a popsickle every 30 minutes!! Also broth is good and I did soak a cracker in the broth. Keep your chin up!!
