laurie07
Hi I just had lap-band surgery 5 days ago. Disappointed in my self. Have been on liquids for almost 6 days and i'm been mourning the loss of food terribly. Already wish I could reverse. Can only get 20cc's in a day. Dr wants 40-50cc's. Just can't do it. Almost constantly nauseous, and have been dry heaving quite a bit; especially after drinking proteins. I don't know if I can do this. Such a loser. Has anyone else experienced these issues? Help!!!!! Hon, It gets easier, I promise! We all go through the stage of mourning food and after you can start eating solids, you'll find at about 6 weeks out you wont' have any or much restriction. I have to admit I dragged my feet getting my first fill (just last week) because I knew it would mean I'd have to cut back. So far though i've felt great, just had a diminished appetite, and can eat just about anything as long as I eat slowly and chew well. I found a soup that I really liked during my liquids phase and almost exclusively lived on that...even watered down pudding (with milk)...anything so you get some nutrition in. Take care, Twigs 1.8 cc fill 6/12/

My band was in March and I STILL mourn food, lol! We are addicts. Just like the alcoholic will always want a drink, we will always want to order the appetizer, salad, main course (or 2....) and dessert. And take bites from our dining companions plates too Your band is your tool to help you still WANT it, but NOT EAT IT - that's a good thing You should be clear liquids for right now. Call your Dr., explain the situation and I'm sure you'll get the needed help You're doing fine and aren't experiencing anything many of us have at one point or another :)

collegegirl9696
The topic at hand..... A very common feeling! the reason most of us get the band is because our relationships with food have reached an unhealthy level- too much love...HAHHAHA. It is okay to feel that you regret getting the band at first- I mean if you really wanted to give up food- you would have never had a problem dieting!!! You will eventually be able to eat some of the things you love- and your eyes will always be bigger than your stomach. But when you see the results- you will see that it is well worth it! in between fills you have to be careful and watch for signs of eating too much! At first it feels wonderful to be able to eat bigger meals- but then you dont see anymore results....and you realize that it comes with a price! I am learning this right now, actually. I was dilligent on my first fill and got it right away, but I am in definite need of a fill and put it off because it was nice to eat bread and spaghetti!! But if I want to reach my goal- I will have to go back to mashed potatoes and beans for a while!! Eventuall y you will always get abck to that point where you can eat better- sacrifice is key- or compromise...Good luck hun- and congratulations on getting your band...It really is the best way for food addicts to reach their goals. It is VERY hard to change your relationship with food- and it is good to have support- I myself dont have that- so it is extra tough! Be strong and know that you have a lifelong solution to a lifelong problem!! Best wishes.

Be strong and know that you have a lifelong solution to a lifelong problem!! Best wishes. I was looking forward and depending on the adjustment to help lose the weight. Then I starting feeling bad. Doc said all my signs were I was filled too much on my last fill. I was up to 3cc so he took me to 2cc. Yes I miss eating certain foods but I also enjoy my new size, being healthier, being comfortable getting in and out of places like tables, booths, vechiles!! I would not want to go back and people do envy you because you lose weight so easy and because they can't have surgery because of money, insurance, etc or don't even met requirements. Please make this a postive thing in your like. We all made the committment to change our way of thinking with food. I want to be the person that eats to live not the one that lives to eat. And that comes from someone that eats about every 2 or 3 hours. Skipping meals is not a good thing here!!
dialit
DON'T regret your decision...you are in an "incubation" period. I've been banded now 7 weeks, and I can tell you, those first few weeks it is one change after another as you transition from clear liquids back to solids. TAKE YOUR TIME. Remember, whatever you are consuming right now is NOT what you will be eating come a week or two from now. Stay at each phase of your post op diet as long as you need, even if it is a little longer than recommended (but not LESS than recommended), knowing that each time you make another step in the transition there will be new tastes to enjoy. Better to spend a little extra time on liquids if your tummy isn't ready for larger things than to start PBing, dry heaving, etc, and 2 or 3 days, or even a week or two of less nutrition than optimal isn't going to do any lasting harm. Heck, I don't know about you, but I have PLENTY of excess "nutrition" available still...on my thighs, my bottom, my ab, etc! LOL! Almost all those things you loved are waiting for you again ...only in very tiny bites and small, well chewed portions (we all lose one or two things due to incompatibility, my only loss so far is Dr. Pepper). And I'll tell you the funniest thing...I am starting to find that some of the foods I have always considered "favorites" aren't so hot when they've actually been chewed! And once it doesn't taste as good, you don't miss it! (I was a non-chewer...just one, two, three and on to the next bite!)
