dreamhappy07 Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 I used to take one Naproxen a day before banding for arthritis in my knees and hips. Haven't taken any since and was doing pretty good. I was glad to get off of it, but since I have dropped some weight, I thought it would get better. Could be another reason that I am still in pain, but I was wondering if anyone still takes it with the band? I know that anti-inflammatory drugs can hurt the band and cause erosion if taken too much. I take Lortab, but it isn't enough. I am sensitive to all NSAIDS, because I swell from them, but the naproxen wasn't causing too much swelling. I don't want to risk hurting the band no matter what! Any alternatives I can take? Don't know. Thanks for any suggestions or advice. Peace, Judy

I am paranoid about taking any NSAID just in case it does cause erosions or other problems. So what I have been taking is arthritis strength Tylenol. It is extended release and seems to help - and it is not an NSAID. You might want to try that to see if it helps.... Otherwise, I would call one of the docs at OCC to see what they think.
NoWorry Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 I used to take one Naproxen a day before banding for arthritis in my knees and hips. I believe that LoriBecky had posted on another thread that she takes NSAIDs for a back problem. I'm not sure whether it was she or another user who quoted a doctor as saying that it is no longer believed that NSAIDs cause problems with the band. You could message Lori directly for more information. I have been taking Ibuprofen and Aleve regularly since being banded, but I don't put to much emphasis on that, since I have virtually no restriction.
