Sand Pirate
Hi Everyone: I haven't talked in a while but I thought this would be the place to ask? I have had 5 fills so far totaling 9cc's in a 10 cc band and I can still eat as well as I did before the band, with only a few exceptions (dry breads). I also have a restriction first thing in the morning but after a couple of bites of cereal the restriction goes away. I sometimes have a fluid restriction problem that causes hiccups for 10 to 15 min until an air bubble passes through. I was wondering if others are having similar experiences before I have my next fill. My fill doctor said he has filled men with the 10cc bands to 12cc before and the lap band company said this is not uncommon. Sandpirate
Pamela
Sand Pirate, Were you banded on Feb 9th? If so, we were there at the same time! I don't visit the board as much as I use to so I was suprised to see you. I'm the blonde that was there with my sister. I don't know if you remember me but I wanted to say "hi". I have the 4cc band and have had one fill. I don't know about this sweet spot that I hear people talk about. My restriction is really good. I got this fill back in April and I don't feel like I need another one yet. I am down 45 pounds which isn't bad. I was hoping to be down about 50-60 pounds by now but I've been slacking on my exercise. It's my own fault. I really hope that you get the problem resolved soon! Good luck to you and "hello" from Oklahoma City. :-h

I remember the other guy that was with us from Washington I think originally from Australia, he had a 10cc band and I was wondering if he is having the same problem in filling it with no real restrictions yet? I've had 2 fills (5.6 cc total), and also have no restriction. My experiences are almost identical to yours. Bread is perhaps the only thing that I can't easily eat. It gets stuck usually with the first or second bite. If I rapidly take three sips or more of liquids, I also have a brief period of restriction. I feel tiny air bubbles being released through the band as the liquid goes down. It usually passes in about 10 minutes. And it's always more pronounced in the morning. What was your starting weight and BMI and how has that changed since your surgery? Considering that you're almost at the max for the band, have you and your fill doctor discussed whether the VG band was right for you in the first place? Well, I never had an option in the size of band that was put in, it seems that Dr. Ortiz puts 10cc bands in men as the norm. I go in Tuesday for another fill this may take it over 10cc I will see then. My pre-op weight was 302 at surgery day it was 285 I an currently at 277...at least I can say I haven't put my weight back on Sand Pirate

Please do post your results. Since our starting weights are very similar, I think I'm heading in the same direction as you, and your experience may give me some idea of where I'm headed. Congratulations on keeping your weight in check in the meantime. I'm managing to tread water, too. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this will be the one that gets you to the sweet spot. Good luck. It looks like you've been very diligent about getting a fill almost exactly every 4 weeks. Did you get them all at OCC? I'm researching FillCentersUSA which has just opened an office locally. They have a package that includes 4 fills and 8 office consults for $1228. It sounds like a pretty good deal.
Pamela
Hang in there Sand Pirate. I've heard of some people getting a thicker saline injected when they haven't had any restriction with the normal saline that is used. You might mention it to the doctor to see if they have more info. Glad to hear from one of my fellow bandsters!!!
