Kari Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 Is there anyone here monitoring this forum? Maybe I am just an old prude, but I take offence to these porn and sex drug posts. They have no place on this forum. They have nothing to do with weight loss surgery.

Things like that are sent out in bulk on an automated basis from these sites, just to see if they get any hits, not by actual forum users. The moderators seem to be doing a good job of deleting them when they come in. If people actually on the forum open them, then the spammers will know that is a real address and keep sending stuff, and they may share the site address with other spammers, so.....don't open them and let them be deleted by the forum moderators.
Clynn Posted September 12, 2007 Report Posted September 12, 2007 We're all tired of them but it's just a part of communicating on the internet in an open forum these days. The forum administrators have done a lot to try and prevent them. Some things you see, like banning links to external images, some things are behind the scenes. There are people who look through the forum and delete the obviously spammed posts but even that is not without it's problems. One of the monitors had his computer attacked by the spammer while he was deleting posts. It was pretty bad awhile ago, then the spam posts stopped but now they are starting up again. Anytime you deal with computer security you have to run as fast as you can just to stay where you are.

We have 2 volunteers/members that patrol this forum for spam posts. We try hard, but there's times when these spammers sneak some in. We're on here when we can do it, but were not on 24/7. There are hundreds of spam posts that get deleted every week. So if you see one or two, here and there, that happens, but they're usually deleted shortly after there posted.

I really appreciate the hard work and hassles the monitors go through to try and keep those posts off the forum. It's not like they get paid to keep an eye on things! Thanks again. Twigs

LOL He works his TAIL off to try to keep the spammers off the boards. I think they are doing a DARN good job of deleting them. One or two may get through occassionally, but that's NOTHING compared to the hundreds that EACH ONE of them delete on a daily basis. Of course, if it's bothering you that bad, maybe you could volunteer to help delete them. And ABOVE ALL, as Vicky said, DO NOT OPEN THEM! Donna

LoriBecky Posted September 13, 2007 Report Posted September 13, 2007 we do try! I have 2 spaminators and I pop on and try to delete posts as fast as I can but a lot of them happen overnight. make sure you report the porn/ad sites - that way we know we need to fly in with our spaminator capes and save the forum - i already have my magic glasses on
