kimberlydb
I had my surgery in March 07. After reading a few posts I feel that I'm not doing as well as I should be. My doctor is very strict in making sure that you follow the pre surgery diet and actually loose an amount of weight before surgery. I started the process in May2006. Back then I weighed in at an embarrassing 367. On the day of surgery I weighed in at 337 so i had lost some weight. I've had 2-3 fills now, and as of today October 4th I'm down to 282. So since i started the process i've lost 85 but since surgery its only been 55 and i see that others have lost alot more than i have in a shorter amount of time. I go back in november for a fill, which i might go sooner because i can eat a whole salad which is great .. love it. but if i eat chicken lately.. it feels like its sitting in my throat, and then i end up throwing up, and feel completely better. I read about band slipage and i dont think its slipped or anything because i'm not constantly throwing up every day.. its only here and there and when i eat certain foods.. any ideas?? am i on track or what?? My doctor says the expect a weight loss of 1-3 lbs per week.. but as u can see its been 8 week.. so it should be around 16 lbs. i'm at 11 i guess i feel behind... FurEllie
Honestly, I think you're doing FANTASTIC!!! :) From what I've read, chicken is one of the most "iffy" foods. People who can tolerate just about anything may have problems with chicken. That said, everyone is different and what I've been able to get down one day will PB on me the next. Keep doing what you're doing - you're losing weight! That's a good thing. Don't try to match specific stats on how much you should be losing. I had my surgery in March 07. snowbird
1-3 pounds a weeks sounds like an awful lot. Maybe you can do that for the first month or so , but the articles I have read say that 1-2 lb per month is the desirable rate for permanent weight loss. "They" say that it usually takes two years to lose with a lap-band procedure, so don't try to rush it. Everyone's body is different. As long as you are not gaining, you are fine. You have lost 55 lb in a bit over 6 months. I would say that is wonderful! This isn't a contest--it's a process of getting healthy. Sounds like you are headed in the right direction. I have to pulverize shrimp to get it down - in fact, it's one of my "good" foods because it takes me so long to eat it that I'm full sooner, lol. Mussels and scallops have gone easily. Fish too. Haven't even tried lobster yet - thanks for reminding me how much I like it and that I need a good lobster meal In the AM, I pretty much can't get anything down w/o something warm. My mornings are my splurge and I drink some very high calorie chai and a piece of french toast or a pancake (microwave). This usually keeps me full most of the day. My TOM has always made me tighter and in the stream of full disclosure, I've pretty much been on in since my last fill. I'm scheduled for a hysterectomy in 3 weeks - it will be interesting to see if feel different and need another fill after having no more periods! I just had my first fill this weekend, and if I can lose what you've lost in a similar amount of time I will be THRILLED! Be happy for yourself, at this rate you'll be down a whole 100 pounds at the one year anniversary of your surgery. I'd say that falls into the category of FANTASTIC! Keep your chin up! > ~Lauren
