Considering the Lap Band

Recommended Posts

I am trying to come to a decision if I really want to take this drastic step in weight control. I am worried that I may not be able to get enough nutricion to stay healthy. What about all the medications that I need each day will I actually be able to take those without them coming back up? Can you actually take in enough calories each day to keep going and have to appropriate energy levels to work. I am a teacher and I chase little ones all day so I do need to maintain a certain level of energy. Why the Lap Band over the Gastric Bypass? I know one is more surgical then the other which one really works the best? I also am concerned that I may not get enough Vitamins, and can I take Liquid Vitimins? Will I get the loose skin and tired look that so may bariatric surgery patients get? I have some aquaintences that had Gastric Bypass and they are thin but they look more then there age. Am I worring to much here? Any one please fill me in.

Hi Lucky... my experience is that I do get enough nutrition and I do have enough energy... exercise and rest are important also.... if you lose a lot of weight very quickly you will have the loose skin issue... for me, my weight loss has been a little slower and steadier so my skin issues probably wont be so drastic... if you take liquid vitamins or liquid protein, you will have no problem... I also think that if you follow the doctors' guidelines re: what and how to eat you wont have trouble either... there is always a time of adjustment and learning in terms of what being banded will require from you, but if you do the work, you will get the result... one of my best friends had gastric bypass and she had the gaunt look for a while, which is why I decided on the band... its reversible and the weight loss is less drastic than with bypass, plus the malabsorption problems are fewer... As fat as vitality, you have to remember, if you are overweight, you have LOADS of stored energy, so when your body needs it, it will draw it from there... you really have to determine for yourself how much energy you have now... I know for me, I've had no significant loss in energy, and I feel great!

Hope my pre-coffee ramblings help!

Kyle

Kyle,

Wow Thank You so much for your reply. You really helped me out with your positive and informative answer. I thought that The people I saw with the lap banding looked great and did not have the haggard look of the gastric bypass patients. I just wanted to hear that from someone else as I thought maybe it was just me. I am a high energy person but have lost some of that with weight gain. I just want to get back to feeling and looking great again. I have to go to a seminar tomorrow night to get all of the Information so I should be more informed then. Thanks again for your helpful reply.

Lucky
