Is anyone scheduled for surgery in Dec ?????

Recommended Posts

I'm scheduled for surgery Dec 4th.... scared out of my mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everyone goes through this mental thing. Its a big lifestyle change, of course it makes you nervous. But when its all done you'll realize it wasn't that big of deal. How many times have you seen this same post?? And how many times have you seen the same person report back that the experiance was a good one??

I am scheduled for Dec 6th and will be down there on the 5th. I will see you down there probably. Take it easy. You will only make things miserable for yourself. I am looking forward to getting this done and over with and start my new journey. Just hang in there. Will see you on the flipside.

I am scheduled for surgery on December 17. Only one more week and then I'll start this new adventure. I am so excited to get this weight off of me, forever!!!! I have been reading alot of the responses on this forum. Most of them inspire me, some of them however, make me a little worried. I think that I am most worried about how I am going to survive 3 weeks on liquid only, especially during Christmas and New Years. Can anyone tell me how they survived the three week liquid diet, and if there was anything they did that helped them fill full?

Thanks,

JulieMom

Regarding the liquid diet for 3 weeks- it's not bad. I found some tomato and roasted red pepper soup (in a carton, sold at Trader Joes and other stores) and it was delicious. Liquid yogurt drinks were great though some were too thick and had to be diluted with a little OJ. I also got a "magic bullet" and would liquify soups like clam chowder or even beef stew. It's thick and very filling yet still a liquid. I only did that during the 3rd week. It's an investment to go slow and follow the rules. ALSO: Try the liquid Slim Fast drinks- very good. I only got chocolate (why bother with anything else?). ALso I got a big container of Michelle Champion Protein powder. The chocolate honestly tastes like chocolate milk. I'm made several servings and keep it in the fridge. It did help with hunger. I was OK until the last few days when it got tough. Hang in there. You will be fine. And maybe being on liquids over Christmas will help- you won't be tempted with all the goodies. Keep us posted.

Had my surgery on December 6th and it was a piece of cake! I am a big baby and the most traumatic part of it all was getting my IV! So for all those worry warts out there, if I can do this so can you! I am doing the liquid thing and the only problems I have encountered so far is that the food commercials on TV are driving me nuts. I have decided to record anything I want to watch so I can fast forward through those annoying commercials that put bad ideas into my head. I also really don't care for soups or broth, but I am doing this as well as I can manage and look forward to adding some yogurt tomorrow! Yippee!

I am scheduled for surgery here in Memphis, Dec 15th this Saturday. Im not worried about the surgery part of it but I am nervous about the new life style. I want to lose the weight and need to lose it for Health reasons. So much of our social life revolves around food and drink. I am hoping I can cope with the new healthy choices I will need to make. 3 weeks of no solid food sounds like Hell to a 300 pound man.

Thanks for your reply!! When did you have your surgery and how is it going for you? What did you do the first two weeks? I understand the first week it clear liquids and the second all liquids. What constitutes a clear liquid?

You are right, it's probably a good thing that I can't eat during Christmas!!! However, Egg Nog is a liquid!!!!!

As far as recovery time, how have you been?

Thanks again, and I look forward to your responses!!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello all,

I was banded 12/07/07 byDr. Ortiz. Everything went great except me pulling my stomach muscles trying to pull my heavy bag over the boarder and in the airport. This caused me more post op pain than I think most people had because my stomach was really sore everytime I moved. I recommend packing light! So far I have lost almost 20lbs but it slowing down which is expected so my hope is to maintain that 20lb loss until my 6 week fill. Good luck December Bandsters.
