Hey! Can anyone explain what you have to do for this during the pre-op?

If I remember correctly they give you a tube with a small device attached to it. You then need to blow into the tube as hard and as long as possible while the device takes measurements. This is to ensure that your lungs are strong enough to get you enough oxygen while you are under anesthesia.

My sister gave me one of those breathing things they give you after surgery for practice. Do you know how I should be using it? I don't expect any problems with the lung function test, but it doesn't hurt to practice my lungs.

I believe your sister gave you an incentive spirometer. You want to inhale so that all three balls rise to the top.

The respiratory test is just as Clynn described, blow as hard as you can for 6 seconds

I'll add that if you don't do so well on these breathing tests I beleive they then hook you up to Oxygen (nasal) during your surgery.
