But all caps in posts are considered shouting

Hi all...... I've been writing in all caps since I came on the forum.... never been on a forum before and did not know that it meant shouting. Sorry to everyone, didn't mean to shout!! :((

I have a little trouble seeing and I guess I did it more for myself. I will do better....

If you are using Internet Explorer you can change the text size on ALL webpages by clicking "VIEW" from the top menu the 8th option on the list is "TEXT SIZE" put your mouse over that and a menu will pop out to the left- then choose Larger or Largest... Hope that helps!

I'M SORRY BUT MY WHOLE LIFE I HAVE BEEN WRITING IN CAPS, ITS SOMETHING THAT I PROBABLY NEVER CHANGE. IF I WERE SHOUTING IT WOULD LOOK SOMETHING LIKE THIS. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Writing in all caps may be easier, but reading it isn't. I have to admit I don't like it. But then, the last time I checked I wasn't the queen of the forum.

I just have to ask... if we are discussing forum etiquette... what does 'Bump' mean? :-?

Everytime someone adds a new post to a thread the thread is moved to the top of the forum list... If someone wants to move their thread to the top of the list but doesn't have anything new to add they just say BUMP so you know that they are moving the thread up with out having to post or give a reason!

Thanks MamaMichelle....... I suck on the computer!! LOL!! What you wrote is a series of clicks and whistles to me!

I'm lucky I can find my email and this forum. I've gotta get Hubby to help me put up a weight loss ticker..... like I said, I suck!

I'll get used to writing in the "normal" size eventually.....

On our stats thread I had requested for it to be stuck at the top, but the higher ups turned it down, so when it gets on like page 6 or 7 I have to "bump" it up so that the newbies can add their info. ><'

I'm sure we're all adults here and can set aside the "rule" that writing in all caps means you're "shouting". it just depends on what makes you more comfortable in typing and for some people, that's in all caps. Let's focus on more important subjects, like supporting each other. :)

I admit that it bothers me when people type in all caps... and I will skip over many posts (especially if they are long ones) if they are written in that style because it gives me a headache.

So while it's a personal preference for someone to type that way, it's my option to ignore it. Nothing personal - it just hurts my head. :-)

I will say however, that it would benefit those who write this way to at least try to conform. Just as punctuation indicates the tone or intent of a comment ("What!??!?!", "I want to eat solid food!!!!!!", etc.), so does all caps. Just sayin'...

Just as an FYI, When I was on another board, we had a member who had had a stoke. She had a hard enough time typing at all, let alone trying to type with correct punctuation and using caps when and when not they are required. So, for her, it was basically a medical necessity for her to type in all one style or else she would not have been able to communicate at all.

Just saying...................there may be reasons for people to type that way that you may not know about.

My personal opinion is that there is enough horrors in the world today to worry about that concerning myself with sonmeone's typing abilities just doesn't warrant any of my precious time.

Live and let live! We will ALL be happier people!

OK.. look everybody...when I brought this up I prefaced it by saying I wasn't trying to be bi*chy nor am I trying to be petty. It is a free country type however you feel. It is a generally accepted rule in most forums to not type in caps as it is considered shouting and is difficult to read, just as it is a generally accepted rule in a library to speak in a hushed voice.

If you feel that typing in all caps sets you apart as an individual or you need to do it out of medical necessity...go for it. I'm a big girl (literally) I can always choose what to read or not read.

I don't think I am the queen of the forum, was just trying to convey to posters who may not know about caps.

jet, I wasn't trying to say I thought you thought you were queen, just that I occasionally act like the queen and I shouldn't. What this illustrates is that there is a certain etiquette connected with forums that we do well to observe, because we communicate only by the written word and don't have the advantage of facial expressions and voice tone to help interpret what we say. According to this etiquette, CAPS are used for emphasis, not general communication. For some of us, they are also harder to read. For those who find it easier to type that way, I will not dispute your right to do so, but I also do not dispute the right of those who find it uncomfortable to read and choose to skip over it. It isn't a big deal one way or the other, though.
