cookgal
I am concerned that I will not be able to lose as much weight as I need before surgery. I am scheduled for surgery May 25th in TJ with Dr. Ortiz & have only lost 2 pounds. Has everyone lost the weight before surgery? If so, how? I am following the recommended diet but the pounds are just not coming off. Any suggestions?

I am following the recommended diet but the pounds are just not coming off. Any suggestions? I just had surgery with Dr Ortiz on May 17 in TJ. I lost 19 pounds on the pre-op diet following it, with no exceptions. 8am Multivitamin and 2 Metamucil capsules 11am Slimfast Optima 2pm Green salad with Balsamic dressing (Newman's) 5pm Slimfast Optima 8pm Slimfast Optima 10pm 2 Metamucil capsules if needed for night hunger (most times I didn't take these) In addition, drink lots of water and SOBE Lean (Green Tea or Cranberry-Pink Grapefruit) Just remember to drink til you pee clear (tacky, but true) this speeds up metabolism. I started my pre op diet one day earlier, so I was on 8 days and lost 19 pounds. Dr Ortiz said this will greatly speed my recovery. I am now on clear liquid phase-I have followed it strictly and have lost another 9 lbs in one week. Tomorrow I get to start the yogurt phase-whooohoooo. I hope this helps. Good luck!! loveothersnow
I am also having my surgery on May 25th and am looking forward to meeting the other three people who have posted questions here. I have a very high BMI and have been following a pre-surgery diet for 3 weeks. I have lost 22 pounds all together but that is a drop in the bucket compared to what I need to lose. Some days I did not lose a pound and actually gained a pound! (With no cheating) It has been very good practice for me, for what is coming in following the post-op diet. See you tomorrow! CindyK
Hi Cookgal! I, too am trying my hardest to lose weight before my surgery on June 9th. Have been dieting for 1 week and only 2 lbs! It's killing me! LOL I am afraid with my diabetes it's making losing so much harder! I hope that I lose more.... Good luck with your efforts and let me know how you do!
