sphynxmomma
Since oral contraceptives increase blood clotting, has anyone ever been asked to stop taking hormonal birth control pills prior to surgery? I’ve read through the paper work but can’t seem to find anything.
Blazn
Yes, there is a risk with blood clots, strokes, and heart attack with oral contraceptives. But it is not advised to quit taking your BC for surgery. You have a significant increase in risk with smoking. It is more important that those who smoke quit before surgery. But do not stop birth control. The risks of blood clots are low, esp. the younger you are, and plus you would not want to risk getting pregnant within a year after the band. Alana
I spoke to Dr. Miranda about bc pills and she didn't say anything about getting off of them prior to surgery. Alana
Jacklynrae
You do not need to stop your bc you can even take it the day of your surgery. The benefits of bc are greater than the risks and I had no problems with mine.
