Hospital Stay

Recommended Posts

I will be banded on May 26 and my sister is going with me. Can she stay in my room the night I spend in the hospital. Do we completely check out of the hotel or do we get the same room when we go back. She wants to stay with me that night in the hospital if they will allow it and there is somewhere for her to sit/lay down. All of you are truly an inspiration!

No she will have to leave when visiting hours are over at 5:00 pm that night. But if you are feeling like it you can go back to the hotel with her. That is what I did and I did just fine. There were 2 of us that went back to the hotel after we got out of surgery and walked and got to feeling better.

But yes you will stay in the same hotel room the entire time you are there. Enjoy it is a wonderful time there like a mini vacation !!

That is good to know! Were you checked again by the nurse/doctor during the rest of your stay?? Before you went home two days later???

Another question, is there a computer in the hospital to go online and e-mail, or do you need to bring your own laptop? Also, do cell phones work inside the TJ? I am going by myself and need to contact my family when surgery is over. Any suggestions?

I was checked serveral times that night while i was at the OCC. Personally - I would stay the night. My husband went back to the hotel and ate dinner with a bunch of people who were getting banded the next day. The hotel is nice and very safe. I was more comfortable at the occ then at the hotel since they had satelite TV and the bed was comfy. THe next morning one of the drs. come in and check on you one last time and give you another anti-nasuea does.

Before you go home they dont check on you- but are just a phone call away if you need them. IT was a great expierence! Good luck!

the OCC has a phone in the main office and also in each room you will be able to call the US free of charge- watch out using your cell phone- my didnt work in TJ but the fees are pretty crazy if it does so I would check with your carrier first! The OCC and the Lucerna have computers you can use- I just watched TV the whole time after surgery but I did get on the computer at the hotel a few times.

My husband has to leave me at 5:00 PM and can't come back until the next AM? Thats a bummer :lb12:

you will leave the OCC so early that it will be silly for him to come back there for you in the AM. My husband didnt mind-he was pretty bored at the occ bc i was out of it! haha hopefully yours will feel the same good luck!

Lots of people update the forum from the computer in the nurses' station. :)

You won't even miss him.. you will be goofed up from the drugs from surgery, then you will be treated like a queen with popsicles and juice by the nursing staff. I felt the same way when my hubby was told to leave at 5:00, (a complete surprise for us,) but found it to be relaxing after he was gone and not hovering over me.

I would stay at the OCC and see you husband in the morning. As for computers both the hotel and OCC have computers available to use...As soon as I could I emailed my friends to let them know I was okay after surgery.

THE GUY I WORK WITH AND HIS DAUGHTER ENDED UP BACK AT THE HOTEL AFTER SURGERY. THEY BOTH JUST CHECKED BACK AT THE OCC IN THE MORNING :)

Pammie,

I just noticed that our beginning weights are almost identical and you have been very successful. Do you mind telling me how tall you are and what your overall experience has been like?
