I had my first fill today!

Recommended Posts

I am using a local Bariatric surgeon for my fills and he was great! He even knew Dr. Ortiz! He put 1cc in my band and I go back next month. I didn't even feel the needle go in. It was a breeze!

Congrats Kimmie,

Did your doctor use fluro to check the band placement or your flow level? Also why did you only get 1cc, I know you had some vomiting issues right after being banded so was he being cautious or is this the standard amount of fill he gives for 1st time fills?

How have you been? We miss you around here!

Hi Kimmie,

How are you? Good to see you back.

Good news about your fill! I'm looking forward to my first one in 3 weeks. You're doing great on your weight loss.

Take care,

Denise

hey Kimmie

I live in n. al., where in mississippi did you get your fill and what did they charge you for it. I will have my first fill with Dr. O, but I may need to know for the 2nd one. We go to Gulf Shores a lot, like every other month, so maybe I could zip over and get my fill there. It's so good to know someone who had such a great experience. Please let me know all the details.

thanks,

Reneej

Michelle~

He did not use fluoro, but he told me 1cc is the standard for a first fill. He will fill me every 6 weeks until I feel I can only eat 1/3 of what I used to. Thanks for posting that pic! LOL I can really see it in my face too!

Thanks everyone for the sweet replies! ><'

2fat4me~I use Dr. Avara in Ocean Springs which would be about an hour or so West of Gulf Shores on I-10. He charges $1500 for a full year of fills.

$1500 for a full year of fills.. WOW. I know that Dr. O's office telling you that you will most likely only need 2 or 3 total now seems totally farfetched. I wonder if there are any bandsters that have only ever needed 2 or 3??

So who determines when you need a fill, you or dr. avara? If you got a fill every 6-8 weeks till your were just right on restriction, that might be ok, but that's sounds high to me, and you said he did not use a fluroscopy, how did he know if you were swallowing correctly? Did he do anything else while you were there? I wonder if you just wanted to pay by the fill how much it would be. I guess you can tell I haven't had my first fill yet. I am so glad you're doing well, keep it up!

The difference in fill amounts is the difference between usa and mexico. In mexico, Dr. Ortiz is much more aggressive with fills and doing them under fluero makes it even better, he can see what he is doing. In the US the standard is to do tiny fills every month without fleuro until you feel restricted. To me, that is crazy, but it is the attitude of the US doctors. And that came from Dr. Oritzi himself. So, essentually, that can mean that you wait and wait and wait until you get a good fill taking it even longer to lose weight. I'd rather Dr. Ortiz being more aggressive so I can get on with weight loss right away. My sister who was banded here in the states has had the same thing. A tiny fill every month, no fleuro so it is a guess and it is very slow weight loss since she still isn't at optimum level even after 3 fills now.

Since my band only holds 4cc I thought that 1cc was pretty good for my first fill.

I will get a fill every 6 weeks until I hit my sweet spot. The $1500 includes their dietician help, post-op teaching, support groups and fills. I had no other choice since I can't afford to go back to Mexico every time I need a fill. I have two small children I can't leave also. This Dr is in my town and he has done surgery on me in the past so I feel very comfortable with him.

I had my second fill by dr avara last week! So very upset with it. He still didn't take me above 1cc. PS I am in south Mississippi. Contact me if you like. laurastockert@yahoo.com

Hi Kim

You are doing great! I was banded in the states, Atlanta Georgia to be exact and my surgeon did a 2cc fill in a 10 band for my first fill and he used the fluro, all was well, I go back for my second on July 3rd and he will most likley do another 2cc and see how that goes. He was basing the fill on weight loss and how good I feel. You have lost a lot of weight and look great. Keep it up, and if you feel good what more can be said. Amy
