Only 1.2????

Recommended Posts

So today I was lucky enough to have my first fill and the OCC staff was once again amazing, I am however very very worried and disappointed that I only got 1.2cc. The other two people that were filled at the same time got 1.2 also. I am starving and obviously can't eat solids but this is the only time I could get away until late September so I think it might be partial nerves and partial urgency to lose the weight, but I am kind of sad I only got such a small fill. Maybe this will be ok? Maybe.....what I'm worried about is I won't. I would really like to be under 200 by my birthday in September but I don't think I will make it.

But I guess I can just make the right choices and stick with the exercise challenge and maybe all will be well. I have read that many of you didn't feel restriction until a few days later, is this normal? How many of you have all the sudden had restriction? Could this little amount be enough? Sorry for all the questions I just hate to think all that money isn't going to help me at. I'm just a bundle full of questions....thanks for the help!

God Bless,

Jacklyn

Hey Jacklyn,

First off don't stress I think that having ANY fill is better than having NO fill.

Who did your fill at the OCC? I was there on 4/18 and 5 of us got a fill with Dr. Romero and I did notice a pattern: 3 of us got 1.7cc and 2 of us got 1.6cc so that does seem a little low in comparison to our group but I think everyone is different in how much they need and what a certain fill level means to their band!!

I too thought that I didn't have any restriction and then about 6 days after my fill it really kicked in and now I can't have any bread or bread-like items... I can still eat 2-3 cups of salad or 1 cup of meat at a sitting so I will be going back for another fill at the end of the month.

So as I said before I think that having some fill is better than NO fill because it has kept me from eating cheeseburgers, biscuits and dinner rolls over the last 3 weeks since my fill so that 1.6ccs is working for me somewhat..

Fills aren't an exact science, what matters is you have taken the first few steps down the right path!!

I remember my first fill wasn't much. I was banded on March 1st 2007 with the 4cc band,, I had restriction from the get go. I waited 10 weeks after my surgery and flew out to San Diego. Dr. Romero and Dr. Martinez both supervised my first fill.. My first fill was only .4cc's,,, that's not even a half a cc,, I was so disappointed,, here I flew all this way for a little itty bitty fill of .4cc's. But,, you know what,, any more and I would have been so restricted I would have had trouble drinking water. I've had 4 fills since my surgery and every one hasn't been much. I'm up to the big total of 2.3cc's. I'm going to be out in TJ this month and I'm going to have everything checked out,, if I get a fill of any kind,, it isn't going to be much,, maybe a tenth of a cc?? Dr. Romero and Dr. Acosta,, they do so many fills they can tell.. They're not going to over fill you on purpose,, that's the last thing you want to be is over filled. Be patient,, be smart, be happy.

Yes you all have very very good points. I know that if I did go home and it was too tight then I would be a in a world of trouble, especially since I can't leave. I think it is my "All of Nothing" creeping back up on me, could that be why I need the band ;) ? I guess I will take the victories in stride, I am too afraid to eat bread haha so maybe that will help tremendously. Thanks all for your support!

We didn't have Dr. Romero.. it was his alternating week in surgery. When I come for my second fill, I will be sure He is on the fill rotation.

Yes but I think they all do a wonderful job. I can't complain because I am such a chicken that whoever is on rotation will put up with me haha. I am hoping I can get some restriction in a few days, I haven't been bad but I don't know just yet....waiting for solids. Let me know how you are doing!

My first fill was only 0.8 cc and it worked for a few weeks, but then I had little restriction and now I have 1.6 cc and it is plenty of restriction. I have to be very careful with what I eat and how I eat it. Everyone is different and that is why the amount varies. When I had my first fill they tried more and when they did the flouro it wouldn't go through so they took some back out so things would go through. It takes several fills before you get to the "sweet spot" when things work perfectly. Don't be discouraged or disappointed.

Hey, Doolittle...

You really did make me feel better.. (I got 1.1cc and cried over it for two nights.) I still am not happy about it, but you have made me feel like everything will be alright. Now, if I can just afford the flights for the other fills... but that is for another day.

The doctor that tried to do my fill today told me that she usually only gives 1 cc if the patient tells her they have no restriction, If they have any restriction she only gives them .5cc. She said the reason for it was because if you get too much of a fill and then have problems with vomiting, you will cause your band to potentially slip.
