LoriBecky
Hello All, I am having surgery on the 21st and was wondering since they use different meds in Mex. what is given for pain? Also, any ideas of what I should bring with me would be appreciated. Thanks, Michelle Hi there, they give you Supradol - which is their version of Ketorolac (an NSAID). its a sublingal (melt it under your tongue) pain reliever. I brought gas-x strips with me for gas pain. If you have any prescription medicine that you need, you should bring it with you and talk to the doctor at the clinic. I brought my robe with me and my slippers (for those walks around the clinic) and your toothbrush & toothpaste and any toiletries you might want. My suggestion would be to bring loose or elastic waist shorts or pants for your journey home, you will be a little swollen and still "inflated" from the gas. You'll want to be very comfortable especially if you have a long journey. Please feel free to email me if you have any other questions.
Chelley
Hi! Congratulations on your decision to have the Lap-Band! In addtion to the comments that Lori made, I'd like to add that the pain I had was minor and I brought along adult liquid Tylenol. I did use the pain medication given to me when I was very uncomfortable, but most of the time Tylenol worked just fine and I wasn't sleepy which is a side effect I experienced with the dispensed med. Most definately bring comfy loose clothes. Another thing to consider is what kind of bra to bring. My uppermost incision is 1/2" below my bra line. I and was so glad I packed sport bras because there was no way the girls were going into an underwire after surgery! Best wishes to you! You'll find lots of helpful info on this site and Dr. Ortiz and his staff are always so accomodating when it comes to answering any questions you may have. LoriBecky
I and was so glad I packed sport bras because there was no way the girls were going into an underwire after surgery! Oh my gosh, Chelley, you are too funny! She's right though, a spots bra would be much more comfortable, especially if you have a long journey home.! I think I'll start compiling a list, so if anyone has any suggestions, please email me at Lori@obesitycontrolcenter.com and i'll make a "best of" list to post for people and I can use it in my contact emails as well. mferra
Thanks Lori and Chelly! I have given birth to 4 children naturally (so you think I would be able to handle pain), but when I read several posts (from other bandster sites) from people who got banded in the US, they said they were given morphine so I was a little worried as to how severe the pain might be to warrant that strong of a pain medication. Thanks for easing my mind! Michelle
lanie
Lori, Do you know if they prescribe anything other than Supradol? I am allergic to all NSAIDS. Or should I try and get my Dr. here to prescribe somthing? I have time to work through this, my surgery date is not until the 28th of August. Any help is appreciated
Kris_TX
Lanie, I was banded 3/22/06...After the first day of surgery, I didn't have any pain. I took the sublingual med they gave, but outside of just being a bit uncomfortable and sore...didn't have pain. I took a taxi to Rosarito Beach (a town that is about half an hour away) and walked (shopped) for 3 hours the very next day after my surgery, and I had no problems! I walked, walked, and walked some more...so I didn't have any gas pains either. Follow the instructions of Dr. Ortiz and his staff and you'll do fine! Good Luck! Kris 3 months post op...down 30 lbs! (only 50 more to go)
