my_friend_amber
So did anyone bring thier cell phone w/ them to TJ? If so, did you get international fees for using it there? Did you have enough of a tower to give you bars to call on? I have Cingluar/the new AT&T.

paulafox
We took our phones with us and we had good service everywhere but inside the hotel! We just went out on our balcony and used it. Otherwise we had no problem at all, and we have Alltel wireless. We called before we left and added 300 mins or international mins and our cost was just $30.00 that way we could use them without the roaming charge for international service. Also there was no charge for text messages, at least that was with my phone company. So I would just call who you have your cell with.
BeBe
I have T-Mobile, and I had NO service at all in Mexico. Good thing I was able to call the US free from the clinic so I could check in with my kids.
LoraLW
I also have AT&T all you do is dial internationally....press and hold the zero button and it will pop up with the + sign...then 1 area code and number. I had perfect service the whole time. I do beleive international rates apply and I think hubby said it was 99 cents a minute. Which I was ok with just so I had a phone 24/7. Good luck and best wishes on your new journey.
calicat
I took my Verizon cell phone fully charged hoping to run up my free nights/weekend plan. It didn't work. I kept getting a lady speaking spanish to me. I called Verizon when I got back in the states and they told me all I had to do was dial 01, or 10, can't remember which...and then the number. It's 99 cents/minute though. My husband did call me one night though. My phone rang, I picked it up, we chatted. That was in the back hotel rooms. When I stayed in the tower, it never rang, and beeped I had a voicemail, but of course couldnt' dial out to retrieve it. It was like $1.50/minute from Lucerna to dial out - and another connection fee on top of that. Just not worth it for me. Email in the lobby on the computers is free at Lucerna. That was helpful. And phones at the clinic in your room are free - you can call anywhere! I had a couple hours before my surgery and had time to call every person I wanted to before the surgery. There are computers for you to use at the nurses station at the clinic too after your surgery. Hope this helps!
The Redhead
My boyfriend got his cell bill yesterday. Apparently I called him on his cell just before midnight (he was at the Lucerna) on the night that I had surgery (I used the hospital phone). We talked for 5 minutes (I vaguely remember... those drugs, you know...). Anyway... it cost him $3.50 a minute, plus roaming charges... it was almost a $25 call. Bad me!! I haven't got my bill yet and I called the OCC from the airport a couple times (they forgot me) and also made some calls when I was in Tijuana to the OCC (to make sure they hadn't forgot me for surgery too). I'm dreading the thought of my phone bill. If his was $25 for one call, mine will be more like $125 extra. :lb1: :ireful3: :ireful2:
