FLAN
I am starting my pre-op diet tomorrow. I went to Wal-Mart today and stocked up on Slim Fast and Lean Cuisine meals. I am not looking for to the next three weeks. Is Lean Cuisine meals the only ones that we can eat or can we do Healthy Choice? I am not a big fan of the Lean Cuisine. lol I am also going to start going to the gym and doing some cardio. I know that with other surgeries, the better shape you are in the better results you have (faster healing). I have noticed that since I have found out my surgery date, I have been eating just to be eating. I think I am eating cause I am nervous and that I won't be able to eat all the food that I am able to now, so I might as well enjoy it while I can. (I think this is how I got in this situation to begin with) lol I can't wait to get my band and start my new life. I am looking forward to finally being able to wearing clothes that are in style, not just what I can find that fits me. I want to be able to wear a swimsuit and not be embarrassed. I go Monday to get my hair cut to start the process for the new me off. I have had long hair ever since high school and I am getting it cut off. I figure if I want to have the new me, I have to start with a new pallet. I know I will be calling on you guys to keep me motivated in the pre-op phase, and even more in the post-op. Thanks for all the advice you have given me so far and thanks in advance for all the support I am sure you will be giving me in the future. > Heidi
nothereanymore
Good luck with the pre op diet! I'm not sure about the meal choices - I would check the calorie and protein content along with sodium, as long as they are comparable you should be fine. Some lean cuisine meals have much higher calorie contents than others. I’m really into reading labels now, it’s amazing what a deference there is in like products! You'll be able to do all those things you wish for and more! I’ll be thinking about you and wishing you well! Congrats and best, Lisa
Musiclover
In Canada we have superstore (or as I like to call it, stupidstore) and they have their own brand of low calorie frozen meals. The calorie/fat content was similar to Lean Cuisine so I used them too for my pre-op diet with no adverse effects. Some of Lean Cuisine's stuff is pretty good, like the cheese pizza (put on your own hot sauce) and the panini's are the bomb (my husband is still buying them even though I can't have them for another week or so). Congratulations on your decision Heidi!
Dontondan
I prefered the Smart Ones meals from Weight Watchers......just check the labels and compare....I am very negative towards prepared meals anyways, but I did it and did well on my pre-op weight loss. Kimra
I have been eating the South Beach Chicken one. There is 30 G. of Protein and only 240 Cal. They are actually amazing!! You should try em... I've lost a ton of weight on them!! Give it a shot!

I'm trying to stay busy and not think about food. The Slim Fast with extra protein is pretty good. I also found some fiber that has Chromium in it. We celebrated Mother's Day yesterday, cause I knew I needed to get started. Hang in there! Audrey
Maytee
Heidi, My favorite protein shakes are the Myoplex lite made by ESA you can find them at hi health or GNC. They are premixed and come in Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry. they are delicious and are 170 cal 24g of protein and low in carbs. I started them on the pre-op diet and I am still drinking them! I will be there on the 2nd too getting my 2nd fill. I hope to meet you there. Maytee

tlag
Good luck with your preop diet. It is tough. I don't think you are the only one to want to eat food before the diet. I know my friends and I all did the same thing. You start thinking....wow I may not be able to eat bread or flour tortillas and etc. It's not bad, you do get used to it somewhat. I think this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I wish you the best of luck with your preop diet and surgery. What day is your surgery. I am going on 5-21-08 to have them flip my port back. It's a great place and the people are wonderful. tanya I am starting my pre-op diet tomorrow. jena
I got home from OCC yesterday!! Everything was fantastic. About the pre op diet...I did it for 8 weeks. I wanted to make sure I lost the required weight and more. I had 17 pounds to lose and I lost 25 according to Dr. M's scales. I did it on Slimfast Optima in the morning and Lean Cuisine for lunch and dinner. I also had sugar free Jello and sugar free Popsicles. The first three days were tough, but after that it was pretty smooth sailing. I do have to say that I am single and live alone (with 5 cats and 1 dog) and I have no doubt that that contributed to my success. I will tell you, if you can't handle the pre op diet, you won't be able to handle the post op diet. 3 weeks before you can eat real food. 3 days of clear liquids, then add blended soups and yogurt smoothies. For 21 days. I was banded on Thursday May 8, and I haven't had anything to eat after a late lunch on Wednesday. It's now Sunday night. I've been physically hungry more than not, but I keep telling myself I can do anything for 3 days. Starting tomorrow, I'll be telling myself I can do anything 5 days and so on until 21 days are up. I have committed to going back on the pre op diet until I have a fill 3 weeks later. I am doing this because I have to take care of the band that is in me. I didn't go to all this trouble to try and buck the system. This is a generalization, there are always exceptions, but from what I've gathered in 3 months on this and other boards, the people who have a problem with pre op seem to have a problem with post op and then they have a problem losing weight at all. Make up your mind and you will do it. Just keep telling yourself "Hunger won't kill me." Honestly, what will that "last" flour tortilla or piece of bread or pat of butter or carton of ice cream (or whatever) do for you? Will you be able to taste and enjoy it after you are banded? Will it give you a warm and satisfying feeling when you remember eating it? Get started NOW! Jena

Everything was fantastic.Jena Hi Jena, Glad to hear everything went well for you, and that the pre-op diet gets easier. This is Day 2 for me; I get banded on the 23rd. You've always had a great attitude, and I agree, part of the success with the band is changing your attitude about what is going in your mouth. When are we going back for the boob job?? Take care, Audrey :-?

Christall
Hi Jena, I needed to read your post today! I am day 2 of the pre-op diet (protein shakes and green stuff). I started a three weeks ago drinking a protein shake for breakfast to ease myself in, then last week I did breakfast and lunch and now this week I am all three. I have to say...yesterday was a really tough day, I couldn't stop thinkinga about food. I think I am doing better today, but I feel starved and my brain doesn't seem to be functioning normal! Your right though....a few months isn't so bad for the results to be achieved. It is not that I may never have those things again...some perhaps I won't, but it will be in way smaller portions. Thanks for the motivation! I am down 8lbs so far from the past three weeks.

bigali
I can totally relate to you. My surgery date is June 6 and I know that I will be starting my pre-op soon so I'm eating like crazy. I think it's because I' nervous about the whole experience. But I'm very excited to start my journey to my new life... A healthier me. I keep telling myself that I need to stop eating like this cuz I don't want to gain any more weight, but the closer I get to my pre-op the more nervous I get and the more I want to eat. I'm a emotional eater and I know that. So stay on track and I will do the same.
ElaineC
I am just starting the Pre-op diet even though my surgery is scheduld June 19th. My biggest fear right now is that it will get cancelled for some reason. I also have 17 pounds to lose and want to be sure I do it. I am not a huge fan of SlimFast. Does anyone know if we can use a Glucerna meal bar instead? They have one that is really good and If I can would like to include that in the plan. I guess I could until I get to the official pre op diet timeframe then go back to just the shakes. What do you think? Elaine (P.S. How do you put the ticker in your posts?) I am on day 5 of the liquid and greens diet. I had no options because I booked my surgery on short notice. Day three was absolutely the worst and then it started getting better. Today was not bad at all and ironically the liquid protein shakes are starting to taste better, how sad is that, lol. Anyway just wanted to let you know it will get better so hang in there. One sideline, my system is really clean now, no detox needed
