i got one after surgery to help with the oxygen intake. i had a hard time with it since i could barely breath right after surgery. i used it for about one week and then stop. i am not sure if it helped or not. Good luck!

You dont need to buy one prior to the surg. They will give you one when you get discharged. I didnt do mine after leaving the hospital but Im young, have no asthma or lung problems and know that if I just take a deep breath and cough a few times a day Ill be fine. I havent had any problems.
