Maytee
I THINK IT IS CALLED BARIUM. ITS A LIQUID YOU DRINK. KHAAN Barium is what the Dr. makes you drink when your getting your fill to see how fast fluid is going through your band. I am planning on getting a normal blood work up to see if my cholesterol has gone down. Is that what you meant? Maytee
MamaMichelle
Hi khaan, Some US doctors check the band placement and the ability for water to flow thru the band before their patients leave the hospital... They use the barrium to watch it flow through the band on the fluroscope (this is similar to what will happen during your fills) It's just a double check for any complications, the barium test allows the doctor to see that the band isn't too tight right after surgery. Dr. Ortiz doesn't do this but I have yet to hear anyone with any complications like that directly after surgery, I think it is probably more of a test to cover the doctors butt with the insurance companies that are paying for these US surgeries. ElaineC
Karen, I had asked about it as it was one of the questions I was "told" to ask. Lori told me that they have the equipment to do the baruim swallow and would if I really wanted it. I did not ask about the cost of it though. MamaMichelle
Well the fills at OCC are free but they charge $100 for the barrium and fluro so I would assume that if you wanted them to check your band and flow after surgery the most they would charge is $100.
