What the HELL have I done???

Recommended Posts

I got banded Wed., 14 May, in Tijuana by Dr. Ortiz. I felt so bad Thurs. I went back to the office for an xray to make sure my band hadn't slipped. It hadn't. I can't keep even a sip of water down, have been throwing up constantly, and can't even sleep due to constant burping and acid reflux. It feels like I'm being choked to death - just wave after wave of pain in my chest. GasX strips and Tums don't help - what can I do???

WOW - I am so sorry you are feeling like this. You need to call the OCC today. I don't think they are open tomorrow although you should have Dr. Ortiz's cell phone number in the packet of info given to you the day of surgery. Also try drinking some warm soup. That relaxes the smooth muscles around the band and therefore will allow whatever is swallowed to go down smoother. As far as the gas - I have heard other bandsters say that Phazyme works for them. For the acid reflux you could try some mylanta or maalox. Really I am so sorry this experience has been so bad for you so soon. I hope it works itself out because I really think the band is great. Please keep us posted. You will be in my prayers.

Hi. I'm Tracey. I don't know if I met you Wed or not. I had to fly to TJ because I thoughtI had slipped my band, I had he same symptoms that you describe and yes my band had slipped. I had surgery Wed and they couldn't save it so I now have no bamd. Please don't take any chances. If you feel something is not right it probably isn't. At least let them check again. I've been crying my eyes out because I feel like I've lost my control now. But if something has happened to your band this soon in it can probably be fixed. Call Dr. Ortiz

Tracey,

I'm so sorry you had to lose your band.... what happened?? How long did you have your band? I hope you will tell your story so that if something similar happens to one of us, we'll know what it feels like. Again, I'm really sorry and wish you all the best, Darlene

P.S. Do you plan on getting banded again in the future?

Congratulations for making the decision to get banded. Although you may be second guessing what you have done, just remember, it will pass. I was banded on the 15th, and definitely find that drinking something warm goes down WAY easier than something cold. I'm sorry you're having all this trouble, but do let us know what Dr. Ortiz says. And they did check your band which is a good thing, so it must be just a short matter of time before things start to improve for you. Try and stay positive. It will be worth it in the end! Anita

SO --- here's the latest!

I wound up going to the ER yesterday (Tues.) after not being able to keep anything down all weekend. This was after talking with Dr. Martinez and Dr. Romero - both of whom were absolutely GREAT and very concerned, supportive, and knowledgable about what was going on. Apparently, the cold that I had pre-surgery (I thought I had mostly gotten rid of it) had met the normal irritation from having the band implanted, and together they teamed up on me and tried to do me in. I got IV fluids all day yesterday combined with an anti-biotic and steroids to reduce inflammation, and by the time they signed me out last night, I was downing Jello and Italian ice with the best of 'em! So things appear to be back on track, and I just want to thank (especially) Dr. Martinez and Dr. Romero for providing me with good information and great patient care! You guys will definitely be seeing me in a couple of months for fill #1!

On a good note, I've lost 17 lbs. since surgery (1 week today), but I wouldn't advise taking the hard road to do it, so be sure you're not sick when you get banded!

As an aside, the doc who saw me in the ER is the local band guy, and he wanted to follow up with me in his office tomorrow. When I called to inquire about appointments, I was told that in order to be seen, I'd need to pay a one-time $500 fee together with a $1000 yearly service fee since I had the surgery done in Mexico. I don't guess I need to tell you what my positively livid reply was! Needless to say, I'll be sticking with the docs who provided me with such excellent service at OCC - especially since I can fly down there (from all the way across the US, mind you) at least 4 times for the price of one office visit here!

All's well that ends well!

Cheers,

Kimberly :D

OMgosh Kimberly what a harrowing experience. Glad all did turn out well. I do just love our OCC docs! They are the best and will do what's best for you. The support here too is just fantastic, do you feel the love and caring of fellow bandsters? I'm so glad you are well again! Keep us posted!

Hanna :)

So glad you're doing better, we've been waiting to hear from you. I would have told that "bitch" that the doctor treated you in the hospital yesterday, and told you to make an appt to see him. I would have then let him make the decision if he was going to charge you, and if he said yes, then I would have walked. But half the time receptionist's don't know squat! Congratulations on your weight loss.. .you're off to a good start!

Glad to hear you're feeling better!! ><img src=<' /> It sounds like the receptionist didn't know that the Doc up there wanted to see you for a follow up, not long term. I'd be asking to speak to him personally!!

The most important thing is that you're OK, take care, Darlene =D>
