ernest
I was banded on May 17, 2006. I am Diabetic and developed an infection because my blood sugar levels were too high after surgery. I have no regular Dr. and Dr. Jimenez was to provide aftercare for me. It usually took 3 or 4 emails to him to get a response. I ended up after 2 weeks just going to a hospital on my own and getting medications and figured out how to adjust my diabetes medication on my own with VERY little help from him. I'm not impressed with Dr. Miranda either. Communication with here was lacking as well. I send an email to ask a question but don't get timely replies, to me that is bad aftercare service. Two weeks ago I sent an email asking for a referral to a Dr. in Mexico City for my first fill. No answer. Last week I sent another request, this time to Sandy in the office and not through the OCC web site. No answer. Earlier this week I sent the same request for information to Dr. Miranda. No answer. My surgery went fine. They provided all the help and did everything they said they would do, but the aftercare is terribly lacking in quality. They say that they provide aftercare for 1 year after surgery... They have my money for the surgery but they need to focus more on improving their service to patients after they surgery is completed. - Still waiting for an answer in Mexico City Ernest
LoriBecky
HI Earnest, I did find your questions while answering contact emails from our website. I am still trying to find you a list of doctors in Mexico City that you can use for follow-up care. I did reply to your email. As you know, we never recommend doctors other than Dr. Ortiz, but we try to provide you with a list of doctors to choose from. We would like all our patients to be able to return to us for follow-up care, but we know this isn't always possible. As with all our patients, we want you to be happy with your experience. We provide each patient with a list of contact numbers when they are discharged from our clinic, including Dr. Ortiz' cell phone number. He wants you to call if you have any problems after surgery, if you experience symptoms you don't understand, or if you have any concerns. Just a note to all patients, if you have any questions, please call or email us directly. When you fill out a contact sheet from our website, it might be a few days until we can get back to you and when we get backed up, it may take even longer. If you are experiencing pain or problems, please call immediately, if it is an emergency, please call 911 or go to your local emergency room. Again, Earnest, I am sorry that you are dissatisfied and I will get back to you with a list once I have compiled one. You might want to check out http://groups.yahoo.com I know the mexican bandsters groups has an extensive list of doctors that will work on mexican banded patients. Feel free to email me directly lori@obesitycontrolcenter.com, I'll be happy to do what I can to help you.
Chelley
Hi! I'm sorry to hear you are having so much trouble after surgery getting answers to your questions. I agree, it is difficult to get aftercare following surgery, especially in another country. I am a diabetic too and I followed up with my endocrinologist here in the USA after surgery. He has continued to treat me although he was concerned about me having surgery in Mexico. I've not had any complications other than a freaky incident with a wasp sting and a subsequent allergic reaction. Thankfully, I have been off my insulin since since surgery with reasonable blood sugar levels. Since my surgery in April, I have e-mailed Dr. Ortiz 3 times and got a response from him on the same day or within 42 hours. I've also made a call to his cell phone number and was able to speak to one of his colleagues since Dr. Ortiz was in surgery at the time. I believe I e-mailed Dr. Miranda once in the immediate post-op phase and she does take a little bit longer to respond, but I did get a response within a week. However, my Mom who also had surgery with me, has had poor results in trying to reach Dr. Miranda. Aftercare is definately something to consider when planning this surgery. I'd encourage future lapbanders to talk to your local physician about post-op care and plan where you are going to get your fills after surgery if TJ is too far away. As Lori had mentioned, any serious complication should be followed up on immediately and in the USA you can call 911 or go to your local hospital's emergency room. LoriBecky
HI Earnest, Just keep my number handy, I'm happy to help in any way I can. We get so many email requests in a day, yours could have easily been lost in a spam folder. We do try our best to get back to anyone who asks a question, but sometimes things get lost or overlooked. We aren't perfect, but we do strive for satisified patients. If there is anything I can do for you, or anyone else on the board, please feel free to call me!
