Any RELIEF?

Recommended Posts

I'm am one week post op. I have eaten clear liquids until Friday I ate maybe 1 cup of cream of chicken soup. I had been having some Left shoulder pain, but it wasn't bad. However yesterday and today are terrible! :lb12: Meds have not helped. It does seem to feel better after I eat immediately but not for long. Is this referred hunger pains? Do I need to eat more? After I eat I feel extremely bloated feeling and its hurting. I have emailed Dr. Ortiz, but has anyone else experienced this and have any suggestions?

When you have surgery they inflate your abdomen with CO2, they try to "suck" all the CO2 out when they have completed with the surgery. However, the CO2 escapes the abdominal cavity and rises. When it rises it pushes up against the diaphragm. This action causes pressure on a nerve that runs along the diaphragm called the Phrenic nerve. Pain arising from structures served by the phrenic nerve is often "referred" pain. This pain can manifest as pain in the (typically) right shoulder, but may also be in the left shoulder. What helps this is getting up and walking around as much as tolerated. Also, taking deep breathing and coughing may help too. I had the same thing happen to me when I had my gallbladder out. It was painful for sometime afterward. Hope this helps. But also, I would contact your Dr. about this-which I think I read that you had emailed Dr. Ortiz-and tell him whats going on. Hope you get to feeling better.

I was banded on May 9th, so I'm 12 days post op. I finally feel no pain. It was never really bad, but off and on, I get stitches or cramps up under my left breast. I had a little bit of gas pain, but it was actually not too bad. I do get back pains, but I'm not sure if they're related.

The first several days, I felt much better after I ate. It lasted longer and longer each day and now, I feel virtually no pain. I hope it gets better for you soon!

I had the terrible shoulder pain till I was almost 2 weeks post op. Gas X made it worse, truly the only thing that helped was lying on my left side. I know it is terrible but it will go away.
