lynzz Posted June 3, 2008 Report Share Posted June 3, 2008 Today is not a good day for me.... The reality of the fact that I am not only not losing weight, but gaining has finally set in. I am on the verge of just giving up. :lb20: I exercise literally everyday, sometimes twice a day, I really push it!! I sometimes burn up to 1000 calories or more at a time at the gym then run for an hour at night. I watch what I eat, my portions, protein, calories, fat content, and carbs but to no avail. I had a fill on May 24th, feel no restriction, as a matter of fact; I haven't had restriction since about 4 days after surgery. I knew that it wasn't a large enough fill, 1.5 cc's. Now I must wait 4 weeks for another fill. It seems like a relatively simple equation: burn more calories than you take in = weight loss. Why isn't this working for me? I feel defeated...I have tried to stay strong, but right now I am feeling like a failure. I don't know how much longer I can keep this up with no results!! Help, I need encouragement!! This is hugely frustrating I am sure but I see from your post that you have really worked hard to improve your health including quitting smoking. That is amazing! I have never been a smoker but I can tell you that my husband had a weight gain when he quit smoking which after a few months came back off. I think what may have happened is your metabolism is adjusting. Our bodies become so used to the metabolic increase from nicotine that it takes a while to realize that the body has to do the work itself now. Now don't use this as an excuse to smoke! It will balance out. Just keep doing what you are doing because you haven't gained and that is really unusual. How many people do you know who quit smoking and didn't gain any weight. Give yourself a pat on the back and just remember this surgery is successful but it is a slow process. You are miles ahead of where you were, keep the faith. I truly believe it will start coming off. You done great so far ! > I wish I would do more exercise :lb12: Now I'm not a specialist, but back in Germany I got my super lazy butt up and started going to the gym like 6 days a week and working out like crazy - but did not loose a pound. I was very frustrated, but the PT told me, that muscle mass is heavier than fat mass, that's why the scale is not showing any loss, but even gaining weight. He told me to measure my arms, hips, legs etc. and I really lost a lot of inches! Maybe that is the reason ? Put them up in the closet, in the trunk of your car or give them to a friend. What's more important? A number on a scale (that may be right or may be wrong) or changing your lifestyle, watching your clothes get bigger and bigger and doing the right things. Don't put so much "weight" on a random number. When you put the scales away, notice things about your body, how it's changing, how your clothes are fitting. Most of all, don't let a number control how you feel about yourself or whether or not you have had a good day. Put them up for a week and see what happens! calicat Posted June 3, 2008 Report Share Posted June 3, 2008 I feel for you. I trained for a Danskin women's tri two years ago and gained 2 pounds over the 10 month period! I weighed more after the tri then I did before the tri! So trust me when I say, I've been there. I was told over and over - muscle weighs more than fat. I'm not sure how many times you hear that - but I about had enough. At some point, the fat has to go away. Have you tried to take a break? Do you take a day of rest from the gym? Try yoga or another form of non weight bearing exercise. Do you get enough sleep? Do you drink enough water? Honestly, you're not doing anything wrong - you're probably doing everything to the book - so mix it up. Try something different. Don't give up whatever you do. Keep track of your eating and exercise (I like sparkpeople.com) and bring your information to a nutritionist or a doctor. I had a friend who rode 100 mile bike rides several times a week and she never dropped a pound. She ate healthy and drank plenty of fluids. So she went to a great nutritionist at her gym for $40, and they changed up the time of day she ate certain foods, and consumed protein and she lost 80 pounds like it was water! I guess it should have not come as a suprise to me that this would not come easy as well......but it kills me that I spent all this money on the band, and I have yet to see a return on my investment. Who was it that said patience is a virtue??? I know it will come, but darn it, I wish it was coming as quick as it has for you guys!! That might be a real silly question, but if you are not eating in regular intervals (breakfast/lunch/dinner) with a few snacks...if you are not doing this your body may be in starvation mode and holding on. I did the whole glitter star and stats thing early on when i joined the forum - and i've since dropped it all except for the weight loss tracker. the rest really wasn't an honest reflection of my success. yes, i'm losing poinds, but when it's not very many, it doesn't reflect that i've grown out of my belt completely (would have to add more holes), the bumps on my skin went away, and i have more energy and tend to be happier throughout the day now than i was pre-surgery. all traits that dont' show up in the glitter star. i was beating myself up over not being able to lose as many pounds as some others when i realized, i'm benefiting in ways that are not measured in pounds. Make sure that you are eating enough calories for all the calories you are burning. If you're not, your body will hold on to the fat it has. crazycoolbutterfly Posted June 4, 2008 Report Share Posted June 4, 2008 I was going through the same thing for the past 4 weeks, I couldnt drop ONE pound, I upped my exercise, added strength training and had at least 2 protien shakes a day which kept me full, except for evenings SO what I did was stop exercising for 2 days and went back to liquids as much as of the day as possible -which turned out to be most of the day except night time so I ate a small meal or weight watchers meal - and LOST 1 pound !!!! I don't know why? So I am happy I kicked my body back in mode but at the same time am confused ?? I know everyone is different and there are reasons for everything, but I agree muscle is replacing fat therefore the scale wont reflect that.. So I stay postive. SO keep up the good work, patience is KEY physically and mentally. I constantly remind myself that!!! I see my nutritionist next week, so i will ask him what he thinks? I do eat 3 times a day, and get about 900 calories a day. I drink lots of water (gave up Diet Coke along with cigs), and eat in the order prescribed. When I had the personal trainer in 2004, I was on a more regimented program, and actually gained body fat?? I know you guys are thinking that this could not be possible, that I must be some closet eater or a sleepwalking eater, but I am not...if anything I would be a closet smoker.....hehe...I really crave cigs more than food. Sooooo, today I took action--made a fill appointment for June 20th, and went back to circuit training in addition to my cardio. I am going to try to push forward, because this can't continue forever, right? Thanks again for all your kind words and comments.... .. > > > I get such a warm fuzzy feeling.... <<big hug>>. Paula Bee Posted June 4, 2008 Report Share Posted June 4, 2008 I am totally with you! I haven't lost anything since my fill on May 6th. We did, however, read that this was NOT a faster process... In my head I want it to be.. I wanted the first fill to give me enough restriction to stop some of the compulsive overeating that I occasionally indulge in. (Then I get upset and have a hard time getting back on the wagon.) It didn't, however, and every day is the same ole fight with food that I have always had. I do know.. we all know.. and we are there with you and here for you. Not instant.. no instant gratification.. aie yie yie! I have faith.. I have to have faith, that all the medical personel at OCC are excellent at their jobs. I do believe that the second fill will be more restrictive than the first. I do believe..
