Chrissy
I had the lap band placed on 9/11/06 in the US. My 14 year old daughter had the lap band placed 5/22/08. The experience was night and day. Dr. Ortiz is so much more advanced and knowledgable. Five of the eight women who had the surgery the same day as my daughter were shopping the next day in Mexico's version of New York's China town. Yes they were a LITTLE sore but still had the urge to shop. I was down for the count for 5 days and could never had gone shopping. I had Dr. Ortiz check my band when I was there since my success has not been what I wanted it to be. After checking the band they said my pouch was too large and my band was too tight. They took some fluid out and hope that the pouch will go back to the right size. So far the weight loss has not happened because of the un-fill but I am going back on July 21st to get it re-checked when my daughter gets her first fill. My daughter is down 17 pounds by the way and so much happier and nicer to me because of it. I was a little nervous to have my 14 year old have the surgery but bottom line it was the best decision I could have made for her. Instead of kids making fun of how fat she is they are now saying you look so different (already I might add) what did you do? She was one who ate six meals a day and was always hungry, now she is not hungry much at all. Her portions are very small. Advice as far as the area, stay close to the hotel, the area is not the best. Bottom line if you are hesitating about going to see Dr. Ortiz for this surgery do it, I paid over twice as much out of my pocket for the procedure and I wish I would have known about Dr. Ortiz when I was looking for a doctor. If you have a teen or are a teen do it, it will change your life.
GirlBarb
Thank you for sharing. I too went to TJ instead of US. The US doc offered me a sweet dear, 9K for surgery and 15 for fill and is only one hour drive vs a plane ticket, I went with Ortiz and I'm not sorry I did. I wish you the best on getting your self back on the right track with the help of Ortiz. Barb One more thing, I wish that my daughter would be open to being banded, I can't even tell her that I was, and she is 25. She has and is struggling all her life. Guest cedartown
I didn't price anywhere else. When i found this forum & read how many surgeries Dr O had performed, that was enough for me. As soon as I read the forum & saw the results people who were committed to following the Dr's orders were having,i knew i could do it too.
yoyodieter
I am so happy for you and your daughter, I went with my son, who is now 23 when he had his surgery, that was 6 months ago, and he is down 100, I was so inspired I went in May. I just wish lapband was available when he was younger, I would not of hesitated for a moment to give him a healthy and fun life!! now if he could just find a wife and MOVE out!!!! Dr. Ortiz and the other Drs. were so impressed by his success, that I had to remind them that this trip was about me, but that was ok, he was beaming in the spot light, where as before he always took backseat. I know the both of you will find the success your looking for, you are bonded as well as banded!!! something the two of you will share forever. Kittycat
I had my surgery done here in Ontario Canada and the procedure took much longer than it does at the OCC and based on the info I have seen on this forum, recovery has been much quicker as well. Not sure what the difference is? My surgeon is a specialist in this field and has performed thousands of lapband surgeries. My surgery was 1.5 hrs long and there is no way in h*ll I would have been shopping the next day, I could barely walk. I am assuming the procedure is performed a little differently in TJ than in US or Canada, less time under anesthetic would make a huge difference too! Linda I would love to hear what exactly your son did to lose his weight. How did eat? What, if any exercises he did to lose the weight?
