Anyone have trouble sitting up, bending down 1 week post op?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I was banded June 13th and everything went real well. Absolutely nothing to complain about the entire experience, especially OCC!!!

Here's the problem, I am still quite uncomfortable sitting up straight - It feels somewhat like when your in your last month of pregnancy when you sit down it feels like your squashing everything from your breast on down to below your belly. It's mostly my left side that's bothering me so much. Also, can't bend down without pain. Have any of you had this sort of discomfort?

p.s. Had my first yogurt today and some applesauce - tasted great! I'm not having any trouble with post op diet - I'm just not hungry.

p.p.s. First day back at work tomorrow - It's a desk job and I'm kind of worried about how I'm going to be able to sit all day long.

Thanks!

Suzanna

Hello All,

I was banded on 3-25 and went through this too. I'm a sloucher and the discomfort made me straighten up! It went away though, thank goodness! I had the bending over-discomfort too, mine felt like something was getting stuck under my rib when I'd bend over. That too went away. The bloated belly, I think, is just the gas and swelling and it goes away too. Just think of all the work that Doc has to do in your belly to place your band, moving things around, it's bound to get everything swollen and irritated. I took Ibuprophen for discomfort and it seemed to work best for me. Also, I found that cold drinks made my gut and shoulder pain worse [at first] so I tried to stick with warm\hot drinks. I'm 3 months post-op and don't feel any of these discomforts any more. =D> I'm sure all this will go away for you all too, just give it a little more time. Try to relax and let your bodies heal, take care and best wishes, Darlene

Yes, yes, yes, for the first week I walked like I was 80 and had the worst back pain ever!!

When the surgeon removed the tape from my incisions, I was re-born, it was the tightness of the tape that was preventing me from stretching or sitting normally and of course the swelling.

I still have alot of tenderness at the port site, I cannot bend directly over, I was told not to. I have and can feel the port. Crouch down or bend sideways...or get someone else to pick it up for you!!LOL!! That's what I do. No lifting for 6 weeks anything over 20 lbs.

You'll do fine, you are recovering from major surgery, just take it easy!

Take care Cathy

I was banded on the 10th of June, Flew home on the 12th and was back to work on the 13th. I have a sitting job also, but I told my boss that I had to get up and walk every hour. So walk, walk, walk.

I was up and walking 30 minutes after surgery. No soreness and no pain. Only pain medication that I received was while I was in surgery or just right after the surgery. Matter of fact, right after the surgery I was wondering if I have been banded since I felt so good. The surgery took all of 25 minutes.

Yup, me too. Other than an angry port site I felt awesome! I sleep better now than I EVER have and I'm thankful for that byproduct. I was weeding the garden the week after and aside from losing my breath and getting dizzy I was fine. hehe. Right now all I'm really fighting is this swollen belly syndrome. I've taken every gas product I can get my hands on but nadda. I guess I just have to wait 'til it releases when it's ready. I still think it's all the dairy! I take Benefiber every day and cross my fingers!

One of the comments in Dr.Ortiz's book said that for some reason men seemed to recover from the surgery faster. This is day 7 and my incisions look only like a scratch. I was a smoker so that thought process has not hindered me. Hang in there, Kittycat better days are on the way.

Thanks Jim,

I woke up with wicked port site pain and thought that I had slept wrong, but I think I was just bloated, my belly was enormous today and I felt like crap all day..once it subsided, I felt alot better. I haven't had that feeling since a few days after surgery. I guess it's normal, considering.

Are you still a smoker? I am too. I plan to give it up and set a goal down the road...maybe when I lose 100 lbs??

Take care Cathy

I smoked until Thursday, before my surgery Monday. I had smoked maybe a pack since surgery. My wife still smokes, which makes it even harder to quit. The next trip to dr. I am going to get him to write a script for Chantix. ( or whatever it is called)
