RogerF
I've seen references to being able to go back to work after banding in 3-5 days, but have read some experiences of 1-2 weeks or more. I work from a desk, barring any complications how soon should I really be able to go back. I'm scheduled for a Friday. Can I be back Monday? Or should I expect to be off at least the whole week? Guest marys
Hey Roger, Everyone is different - so hard to say but i had surgery thursday and went back to work on monday for 1/2 day. I have a very easy desk job and basically work alone so it wasn't so bad. Have you had surgery before and if so, how did you recover, how do you handle pain/soreness - it's not bad but you will be sore and probablly a little tired from no food. Also, how far /how long and HOW are you traveling home - if you are changing planes and traveling for 8 hors + you will be pooped. Why not plan to go back on Wed and if possible for 1/2 day - that way you won't have so much pressure to get right back in the swing of things. My take has always been when you are at work they expect 100% and don't care that you had surgery so why rush it - doubtful you'll need a week + unless of complications etc . good luck! mary I've seen references to being able to go back to work after banding in 3-5 days, but have read some experiences of 1-2 weeks or more. Roger Yeah, it really does depend on the person. People's levels of pain tolerance differ, as well as how long their surgery was, were there any complications, even how long your drive to work is or how much post-op gas you have. My step-mom had a histeroctomy and was up and about within 2 days, doing everything except lifting/bending. I would suggest telling your office you could be gone for as long as two weeks, one week realistically, but may try to come back for short days as early as Monday or Tuesday, depending on how you feel. RogerF
Thanks all, I was planning to keep things somewhat private from work and a few days for a long weekend wouldn't be unusual. But I guess I'll just take what I need to.
Rid
This is a good topic. I've had the following ideas, and let me know how far off I am: I work a desk job like Roger. I'm in charge of my office, so I don't have a boss to report to. I heard that they want you walking around right after surgery to walk off the gas. I figure if you need to walk around right after, then you should be able to... walk around! I figure I'll be grouchy after my surgery, and will probably need to use a little of the liquid vicodin they gave me (YEAH!). But I don't really plan to take any time off. That's also due to the fact that running my own business, I don't really have vacation time. Seems like if you're required to do a lot of walking, sitting at a desk shouldn't be a problem. Right? Rid
Just thought I'd follow up with this. My surgery was at 7:30 in the morning. When I woke up from surgery, my port site was VERY painful. They treated it with pain meds. By noon, I was in a room, and out of recovery. I took a nap for a couple of hours. By 2:30pm, I was walking around, trying to move around so I wouldn't get gas pains. At around 4pm I was discharged. Still sore, and not comfortable, but definitely tolerating everything. I had a function for work that evening. I got home, got dressed, and had my wife take me out. I walked around the function, smiling and shaking hands with people, none the wiser. The next morning, I had a court appearance for a new client that I couldn't miss. Got back from court, checked into the office, then went home and slept. That was the Friday before last. I really took it easy all weekend, but was back to regular work on Monday. Granted, my energy level was low, both from the surgery and the lower calorie intake, but I managed. I'm now a week and two days post-op. I don't think I'm ready to work out quite yet, but I'm very close. Obviously, everyone has a different time table, but this was mine. Good luck. LoriBecky
Hi Rid, glad all seems to be going well. If you really feel your energy is diminishing - you could be getting dehydrated... so keep drinking!
