WormButterfly
Hello, I am new here and have been reading a lot of your posts all night. Ive been on a waiting list to get the lap band done in Australia for 2 years now and its my turn. In a few months I am told I will be banded. I saw a dietitian yesterday he was informative and explained the food after the operation which was a little confronting but I understand it now, also i saw a heart specialist and sleep specialist to make sure I have no contraindications or surgery. I am all set to go now i am just waiting. I am excited about this. I am in my 20's and weigh 110-112kg. Last year I was 70 kilos. I also suffer from anorexia, which might sound like a weird comment to many of you but I was diagnosed last year, as well as having a further EDNOD eating order not otherwise specified. Now my weight is up again and I cant live with myself. I wake up and feel my fat, i feel ashamed, I feel unhappy, which is why I am looking forward to changing my entire life. I am scared of the operation, the scars and the change, but at the same time I look forward to the change. I am a plus model part time and full-time I am studying Ba Biomedical Science and Ba Psychology. I don't know what else to say but I look forward to knowing you all and learning from you, have a great day. Worm Butterfly

julieburns
:lb9: So glad you found this forum. It truly is full of people who care about each other and are supportive. We laugh together, cry together, scold each other(gently) and are simply there for one another. We all have eating issues and weight struggles or we wouldn't be here. We are all at different stages in our journey. The band is no magic fix and even I thought it would be easier than it actually is once banded. there's something about the anticipation that gets you all excited that this is it and then actually having to "work the band" is when it gets tough and the magic is gone. I am in no way wanting to sound negative just giving you a realistic expectation of what this is and the life changing habits that you must develop or it won't work. I just added another reply to this post that may be on page 2 by now. I share some of my eating issues and it may be helpful for anyone with histories of bulimia. So keep reading this thread to the end and you'll find it. Glad you're here and just start reading all you can on here.

COngrats on your decision, it will be the best thing you could do for yourself. I haven't regret it for a moment(even though it has only been 2 weeks). Any questions? Ask away. You will get plenty of help here. Hugs Trudy

I was ready and able to go back to work within 3 days. The surgery is so non evasive that there is not really any pain. Hugs Trudy

fat2nrml
Hello and welcome!! Best wishes for your surgery and a speedy recovery. Most of us here were banded by Dr. Ortiz in Mexico and we were all up and around shortly after surgery. Walking and sipping water are the 2 best things I found to do as soon as possible! Good luck to you and please keep us updated on your progress! Darlene

julieburns
Hi! I am new too and I know what it feels like to suffer from an eating disorder. I have suffered through bulemia on and off since I was a teen. Big ((((HUG)))) You know just an added note, I too had bulimia/anorexia as a late teen early twenty something. How crazy were those days. I would starve myself for days drinking this terrible green liquid concoction that was the "popular" diet of the day called spirulina and then allow myself only 3, 4-6 ounce glasses of fruit juice a day. That was it. My sorority sisters and I who of course some were also on this crazy plan would skip out dinnertimes and go run our asses off, literally for 2 hours each night around the U of O campus. Finally after this craze became old I had starved myself for so long that I started overeating, in my book. One time I just threw up after a "binging" episode, which at the time was probably normal food intake and that started about a 2-3 year roller coaster with this miserable problem. I was lucky enough to find an eating disorder program when I was around 23 which got me back into control and normal eating. It sure never cured my food issues though. Anyway that's a long trip down memory lane for me. I do want to say that the times that I have slimed and/or PB'd I get flashbacks of the bulimic days and feel strange. I really don't like the feeling for sure but for me it's more than that. It reminds me of those times, which were not the best. I never even thought of or expected to have these flashbacks of those days but I do when I throw up since being banded. I have learned to do my best not to because it's so ingrained in me even from years ago that this is not a good thing. Just hope this may help anyone who has also suffered these terrible diseases. I never would have thought or new in the beginning of being banded that because of the PBing my mind would go back to those days of unhealthiness. It's kind of weird and yet another challenge to get my head around the whole issue again.
WormButterfly
I am blown away by the supportability here. We are all in this together just at different stages, we all know what its like to be well 'fat' and the emotions associated with that which is why this is such a caring place. Butterfly1955
Welcome to the newest Newbies, since I'm a Newbie! :-h We (Fireytaxman and I) just returned from Tijuana and surgery was Aug 4. The worst part for us was the internal gas that hung around and even today is giving me a problem but am sure it'll pass. We started the creamy soups today and Fireytaxman is down another 10 lbs! Luckily, I weigh what I did before the surgery as of today so I am happy with that. The weight loss will come once the swelling is gone. I need to drink more water, I'm sure. The paperwork said we'd feel better if not dehydrated so I'll up the water and have to make myself take the vitamins. Chewing them is nasty but got one stuck yesterday that I didn't chew. THAT won't happen again! LOL We met some wonderful fellow banders at the hotel and am glad we were able to support each other down there. Make note of who may be going down the same time you are so you can meet each other. It's great. Also be sure to stock up on GasX strips. We didn't and were told they work great so we'll be getting those tomorrow! Hang in and post often. I love the support here! Butter
