Phoenix
When I went to TJ last month for a fill, Dr. So put in 1.6cc. When I had a fill yesterday, Dr. Berger could only extract 1.0 cc. Is the missing .6 cc living in the tubing between band and port? That's all I can figure out. Then he put in 1.75ccs. I'm on liquids today, so I'll know restriction (or not) soon. ps) I'm not really worried about a leak yet. No reason it wouldn't all leak out if I had one. Kittycat
Hi Pheonix, I was thinking about that too...I haven't had that problem yet, but wonder if because it's liquid being injected, does it evaporate? Maybe a question for the doctors.
Phoenix
I did ask, but since Dr. Berger didn't do the first fill, he really didn't say.. Personally, I have to wonder if it's a combination of flushing out the gases....putting 1.6 in, .6 living in the tube connecting port to band (those don't collapse and empty nicely) and 1 hanging out in the band. Happy to hear from the rest of you with your ideas!
Clynn
According to Google, 1 cc = 0.00422675284 US cups, so there really isn't much missing. It's common for the doctor to pull out less on the second fill than went in on the first fill due. Since a needle isn't a hard vacuum not every drop of saline is going to come out again. Phoenix
I'm an ex-chemist. I know what .6 ml looks like, thanks It's a tiny drop. I'm theorizing that it's hanging out in the tubing, but am looking for something more concrete. Though I should go see if google knows how much volume the tubing holds. Thanks! nicolek
Hi I have had the same problem with my fills. Dr Acosta says my missing .5cc is now just part of the band. As long as I have good restriction I can live without it. Nicolek
julieburns
I'd like a definite answer as well. Hummmmmmmm.. .. I need to get my thinking cap on. Oh but I can't find my thinking cap these days!!
mom12
My fill Dr. said it is a combo of some staying in tube, some condensation and some escaping when the needle is pulled from the port. I always have a little less coming out than what went in.
utahmom
I had the same problem! First fill at OCC Dr Romero put in 1.4cc. Second fill SLC Fill Center, doctor only could extract .6cc..... Where did .8cc go????? I might never know! Thinking about going back to OCC for fill #3, when needed. Arlene
BrandNewDawn
Hi all. This is a question that I have wondered about also. I found this on another lapband doctor's web site: "The band is permeable like a helium balloon, so it will harmlessly leak a very small amount of saline at a very low rate. Most patients will need a yearly adjustment for the rest of their life." I had not heard that before. I asked Dr. So the "where does it go" question at my last fill and he said something about the band being a pressure system but I did not really understand what he was trying to tell me. Not his fault in any way. He was great, very nice and helpful. My first fill was 1.5cc, When I went in last Wednesday, .5 was "missing" and Dr. So put .9 in so now I have 1.9cc and hopefully will get off that plateau I have been on for a month.
