Skylacker
Hi to everyone, I had surgery on the 5th of September with Dr. Ortiz and everything seems to be doing fine.....Except for a sharp pain in my chest. No, it is not a heart attack but it feels like a LARGE burp stuck in there and I am wondering if anybody else has experienced this. Also, can anybody tell me if this is normal and if it ever goes away or is this just one of the perks of being a bandster? Thanks So Much, Skylacker[/font]

That's one of the main side effects the day after surgery, though I'm a little surprised you still have it a week later. I've also heard people get this pain when they are "full" and it's a sign to stop eating, but as you are still on clear liquids, I doubt that's it! mommyrkr
I am 2 1/2 weeks post op. I get the same pain, especially the first week, but still now, but only when I have had too much to eat or drink too fast. It comes kind of slow, and if I stop I am fine, if I drink more, it hurts worse. Try eating slower and it might help. Becki
Tina
Finally someone else is having the same thing I am! I wondered if I was eating to fast but I am still taking small sips and I cant take much liquid in. I am to half a can of tomato soup and water though out the day and that is it... It just hurts to much in my left rib cage to have anything else or move after drinking. Popsicles seem to make it worse do they anyone else? The chest pain I totally understand I sometimes still get the pain. I really dont know what causes it but its painful. I sometimes just want to take a bunch of tums or something just to deflate my belly. Is it safe to take a anti acid? If anyone can help I sure would appreicate it! mommyrkr
Teeners, If you had surgery on 9/7, you are one week out today aren't you? You should still be on the clear liquids part of the diet then. I know for me, for the first week and a half to two weeks, I had very little, maybe a 1/2 to 3/4 a cup at a time. I am on day 17 today, and I just now can eat a hole cup at a time. You might want to recheck the post diet instructions, just to make sure you are not pushing things to much. Oh, and the first 10 days, at most, I could drink one yogurt smoothie a day. And I usually worked on it 4 times a day. Becki
Guest marys
You might also try some warm liquids - they might feel better going down - sometimes really cold things kind of restrict the band and I think make it feel tighter. it is ok to take antacids like maalox, gasx etc. just get the dissolvables and swallow slow! If the pain doesn't subside you should check in with the doctor - although I remember the first several weeks it was hard for me to get in all the liquid and i would take tiny teaspoons full at a time - did a cup of gatorade and maybe a few popsicles - it should pass.
