Trav
Now, please don't take this as the end-all of medical advice. While I've had some degree of medical proficiency, and have studied in the medical field, I'm not a doctor, nurse, scientist, or "other". The good news is, this isn't related to the device itself, and you should have no cause for alarm. That being said, I ran into some troubles, and I think I'm going to have to stay on liquids for a while. (beyond the 21 days) Wisdom teeth are a strange tooth, indeed. They grow in strange ways, their roots grow in weird shapes, (making late in life extractions difficult), and they don't always stop growing. However, when you use them, (i.e. eat solid food) all the time, they are restrained to their usual location in the back of your mouth, provided they have something against them (like another wisdom tooth) to keep them from growing. (The roots of your wisdom teeth keep growing) On the liquid phase of the diet you're not chewing....at all. I still have all my wisdom teeth. (only 3, but that's what I was born with)..my back right wisdom tooth has grown a bit, so that now when I try to chew, I get an intense pressure pain. At first I thought it was cracked, but after closer inspection, it seems to have grown by a millimeter or two from the lower mandible, thus causing an uneven bite, on the grinding plane of my molar bridge. So, I'm either going to have to hope that I can apply pressure to it, (by slowly biting on something, which I can tolerate...chewing is right out), or have it pulled. Just a note for those of you who might still have your wisdom teeth.
AngelaAnn
Hmmm...that sounds painful! I hope you find a solution. I had mine out when I was 16, and that was painful, too! Feel Better!
Taz
Just a note for those of you who might still have your wisdom teeth. This must vary from person to person. I have all my wisdom teeth and started on solids this weekend. Everything has worked out pretty good for me. Hope you get it worked out Trav. Jann
I have all four of my wisdoms and I haven't had any dental issues either. We are all so different. Jann
Trav
ironically, the wisdom tooth that is growing is the one with a top with it....but I've confirmed it tonight, I can touch my wisdom tooth with my top, before my mouth is closed now. I bought some anbisol and hopefully that will help me get thru it to either push it back down, or be able to eat on the other side.
Kimmy in MD
I would just get it yanked. Wisdom teeth are nothing but trouble.
jena
Wisdom teeth don't keep growing like a rabbits front teeth which need continual friction to wear them down to a manageable level. They keep growing in the sense that the continue to break through the gum like all of our teeth do until they have finished growing. It can take years for the wisdom teeth to finally finish their growing cycle. It's just a coincidence that your wisdom tooth has chosen to grow some now. We don't just use our teeth when we are eating, we are always grinding our teeth, even in our sleep, so being on a soft or liquid diet isn't the cause of the wisdom teeth growing. Go to your dentist and if you don't want to have them extracted, have that one ground down to fit your bite. You probably won't have to even have Novocain to have it done. There's no reason to suffer.

It's not coincidence, and I have enough medical studies under my belt to know how and where to back this up. I'm afraid I have to disagree with you and refute your claim. My tooth HAS extended beyond its normal resting place, and I have an endodentist who'll back that fact up. I know you're just trying to help, but trust me on this one, there's not too much that I either don't know the answer on, how to find it, or who to ask to find it. The tooth has grown from its usual spot, and as your mouth is not my mouth, and I'm intimately familiar with my mouth, I'll thank you not to tell me what's going on in my mouth. Trav
That's cool. I would love to have a link or two to the medical studies you site to pass on to my sister from whom I got the information. Well, #1 It's my mouth. Would you like for me to take a picture? I'm very in-tune with my body. #2. My best friend is an endodentist. #3 My childhood friend is also a dentist. #4 It's common knowledge and information that is contained in any dental text book; wisdom teeth, (while not all), are prone to progressive root growth throughout the life of the patient. Either causing the teeth to errupt further into the oral cavity, or cause the roots to grow in irregular patterns. My grandfather's wisdom teeth's roots curled around in the shape of a ram's horn. #5 the dentist I spoke with about getting it pulled also concurs with my diagnosis, and agrees that this is what is causing my pain and bridge misalignment. Dude! Chill! I'm not trying to start anything. I just wanted to prove it to my sister by sending her some links. I couldn't find any by googling "wisdom teeth", "wisdom teeth roots" and various other combinations. You said you have enough medical studies under your belt to know how and where to back this up. I just thought there might be something on the net that I could send my "Know-it-all" sister, AKA "The General." Not only is she a know-it-all, she's bossy. No worries, though. Just wanted you to know I had no ulterior motives.
Kittycat
That's really interesting...when I had my 4 wisdom teeth removed in 1985...they were surgically removed, roots and all???? My current xrays taken in the past 3 months, show no evidence of wisdom teeth roots. Interesting study though. Kinda makes you wanna go hmmmmm. JazzyJude
oh wow Trav...I guess I am a lucky person. I was born with no Wisdom Teeth at all. Hope you will be able to fix your problem ASAP! But interesting enough...and if anyone has this issue, I know who to directed them to! Thanks for the info... If I find any credible sources, I'll be sure to forward them to you so you can show your sister...in the meantime, you can tell her I said she doesn't know what she's talking about in that regard. :-)
