Caffeinated beverages.

Recommended Posts

Are caffeinated beverages a no-no after surgery? Or can you have them in moderation post-op? My diet Pepsi is what coffee is to most people. Also, do you find it hard to not drink with meals? I've been trying to not drink with meals on my pre-op diet (although I am sick right now and cannot keep anything down) to "test the waters" and it's been difficult for me.

Thanks, Kristy

You can kiss the Diet Soda good bye. They say you can have them in moderation after 6 months, but if I were you I would just get them out of my system now!!!! I have not had them in 2 months and I don't miss them.

As far as drinking with meals, I did notice it was much easier not to drink with my food when I first started on solids (when I was tighter). Now that I am getting closer to needing my fill, it is getting harder and harder for me. There have been a few times that I have taken a sip!

All carbonated beverages, pop, beer, wines etc..will stretch your pouch and defeat the purpose of being banded. After you met your goal, you can have a little in moderation.

Caffiene is okay in coffee or tea, but can inhibit weight loss...so it might be best to give it up.

I have been carbonation and caffiene free since my pre-op diet started on May 27th and I don't even miss it all!!

Good Luck!

I miss my Cherry Pepsi and it has only been two months. It has been hard to give it up. But you have to do it. I however, have not given up my mocha's but I have limited them to 2x per week. Thank goodness because I would not lose if I didn't. So far the loss is about 2 pounds a week. I bet if I gave them up completely it would be more. Some habits are hard to break but the pepsi had to go.

I thought wine was OK? Is that right? I was never a pop drinker, so that really doesn't bother me, but I do miss beer. But it's not that big of a deal. I'm surviving fine. I'd really start laying off it now so it isn't as miserable when you do.

Hi Shelby, wine is fine as long as it's not carbonated, like champagne...and you count the calories into your daily 1200.

Oh thank goodness!!! I had a glass of wine last night so that freaked me out! :D I'm going to be seriously limiting my drinking since it's empty calories, but last night it was for business and I got asked to go so I figured I would have one.

Oh i love my cheap pink wine :P:P:P , I too was a beer drinker and still am in moderation (it's 6 months for me) but wine was what helped me make it until the 6 months, I just add it to my daily calories.

Hi Kristy,

I still have my coffee everyday. Dr. O said it was OK in moderation. I usually have 2or 3 cups per day. I get nasty headaches if I don't drink it. I never was much of a soda drinker so it wasn't hard to give that up. I'm still struggling with not drinking while eating, it's a hard, hard habit to break!! <_< Good luck and best wishes, Darlene
