marta
Hi: I am new and still confused; just had my surgery on 11/4 and have been told to go in for my first fill on 11/21. Is this too soon. I have been taking Centrum vitamins an they make me very hungry, any suggestions? Last night I ate a barbecue chicken breast with no problems and only being post surgery 15 days. Kittycat
My first fill appoint was 4 weeks post op..generally first fill is 5-6 weeks post op...during the first 3 weeks post op your body is still healing from surgery. Who told you to get a fill then? Your surgeon?

Kimmy in MD
Chicken Breast at 15 days post op? and it went down ok? Lucky you! be careful with that though and make sure you follow your doctors instructions caefully for best results. I always love to remember Dr. O's saying, instead of testing your band by what and how much you CAN eat. Test your band by seeing how little you can eat. Wow. You might want to watch the YouTube videos by Dr. Ortiz about letting your body heal. 15 days after your surgery you SHOULDN'T be eating solid food yet. You should be eating creamy soups. Normal recommendations, as others have already mentioned, is usually 6 to 8 weeks after the surgery. Your stomach needs to adjust to the band before restriction is applied. Talk to your doctor. Get a clear indication of the menu he or she has for you, and when the fill is supposed to happen. Taz

marta
All I can say is YIKES! No fill yet!Watch the video. Thanks Taz, I love that video. Tara Hi: I had my surgery on 11/4 at St. Barnabas Hospital in NJ by Dr. Nussbaum. I just called his office and yes, he wants me to have the 1st. fill on 11/21; as long as I have no soreness, I will be alright, I am told. And, you are correct, I should not be eating certain types of food; seems that my vitamins were making me hungry, but now I take them before I go to bed and I am not as hungry. Thank you everyone for your posts.
JazzyJude
Wow Marta...I guess your doctor knows what's best for you...still, be very careful because your band still needs to heal properly and don't want to risk of stretching out your pouch so soon. I am amaze that your doctor doesn't allow more time to 'progress' to solid foods. Try a different source of vitamins if you like. I take those chewable Centrium Multi-Vitamin. I also take the chewable Fiber Choice, one at 10a and another one at 3pm for the hunger pains - works great! I also take either the powder or chewable Benefiber for the rotor rooter job! Another option instead of taking the Fiber Choice is the Metamucil capsules...they work great too. I switch off between the two of them to 'change' around. But you do what is best for your body...just wanted to give you some alternative suggestions. Keep us posted on how your are doing! Good Luck! marta
Thanks for all the information. I am currently taking the Centrum chewable vitamins, but I will add the fiber ones for the hunger pangs. It sure is a life change, especially when you are so used to gulping your food. My surgery weight was 230 and after 6 days post op., it was 218, so I hope to be able to lose and see results.
