Last question for the night... from me!

Thanksgiving is here. I'm on my pre-op diet. My pre-op goal is 285 and this morning I was at 286. Dr. Miranda has me on a protein shake for breakfast, a Lean Cuisine for lunch and a Lean Cuisine for dinner. Do I eat Thanksgiving dinner with my family... in moderation? Or should I stick with the pre-op diet?

Thanksgiving is one day. Stick with your pre-op diet.

Get yourself a Lean Cuisine that has the turkey, dressing and mashed potatoes or the one with turkey (or chicken) with dressing and gravy and cinnamon apples. If you're going to treat yourself, Entenmann's has fantastic 100 calorie treats. The carrot cake with cream cheese icing is fantastic. Yeah, it's small, about 3 bites but it's 100 calories for goodness sake!

Add a big salad and maybe some green beans, steamed broccoli or other green veggies. Put your lean cuisine on a plate instead of eating it in the container and eat with everyone else.

YOU CAN DO IT!!

Next year, you will really have something to be thankful for!

Being successful on the pre-op diet has a lot of benefits. As much as you probably want to eat Thansgiving dinner as usual, be mindful that that may set you back. Even psychologically. Hang in there, girl. It gets better. You are strong and have everything to look forward to.

the preop diet is more key if your BMI is over 40. So if that's the case I would stick to it as much as possible.

Share the turkey with the fam and just hold off on the carbs and sweets.

Good luck. I know its hard! I'm trying to figure our how to deal with TG on full liquids!

Stick with the diet, i am getting banded on the friday after thanksgiving, i put a lot of thought into it and said there will be lots more thanksgivings.

Now four weeks ago i would have said nahhhh i am eating Thanksgiving dinner with family, but i have learned that giving in has gotten me where i am at today. So i am learning will power.

If it ws my choice, I would do protein shakes for breakfast and lunch, and then have your Thanksgiving dinner with your family. Have a big green salad and one of those spray Wishbone salad dressings Dr. Miranda suggests.

OR - think and be like a bandster now...pretend you were banded already. Eat 3oz (1/3 cup) of fresh turkey, 1/4 cup of veggies (greens beans), 1/4 cup of grain/carb (stuffing and/or yams) and a few bites of a dessert, and no more than 1200 calories for the whole day. Try it and see how you do! This is what I am doing with my family.

Remember to cut up your food in tiny pieces and chew several times (practice makes perfect!). Serve on a smaller plate - a salad or sandwich plate is perfect, would make you feel you have a whole plate full instead of a regular dinner plate and all the extra room for more temptations.

I think that is really good advice JazzyJude. Kristy, you have obviously done very well with your pre-op diet so far and as long as you don't feel that having a meal will make you 'fall off the wagon' as it were, I think you should have a small meal and eat with your family. I agree that the small plate makes a big difference. Most people have appetizer plates out at a party and those are the ones I gravitate towards and keep everything on one level, no piling food on top of other food.

I agree with the ones who say eat sensibly with your family. Your surgery date is 12/4/08. One meal in moderation is not going to completely sabatoge your diet. It may even help. The worst thing that can happen is you fall one pound short of your goal for surgery. They will still do the surgery. I have read on this forum about people who only lost like 4 pounds and they still had the surgery done. You have done great on your pre-op weight loss so far. Besides, the whole idea of a lapband is to not have to diet for the rest of our lives, but learn portion control and healthy choices. Just make good choices tomorrow and enjoy your meal. Since I will be 8 days post-op, I will be eating cream of chicken soup.
