jeni
Hey all. I'm new to the forum. I'm jeni and I'm in beautiful rainy PDX. A friend of a friend told me about the option of getting lbs in Mexico and for the first time its looking somewhat financially possible. I first got interested in having a lap band when I was 18 but the price quickly made it an impossibility. Now at 24 and just diagnosed with pre diabetes and rapidly limited mobility I've started to get deadly serious about getting this done. The hard sell is my mom who is unsure of the whole surgery in Mexico idea. The money is also going to come from somewhere but I'm a great hustler... Ha. Anyway all your great success stories have me almost in tears. Lately my weight is just getting out of control. I feel misunderstood by my family and boyfriend who seem to think that its just a matter of being lazy. Anyway I'm excited to be here. I'm hoping to get everything in order to get this done before summer! thanks for reading my rambles!!
my_friend_amber
Hi Jeni - and welcome! I just wanted to say that I basically wasted my 20's being overweight and unhappy - those should have been the years where you feel free and beautiful and healthy and I weighed 333 at my May 2008 surgery consultation and I was 29 years old. 6 months later I am down 40 lbs and it hasn't all been fun and games, but it has absolutely been worth it. Do this for yourself if you feel it is right for you. Get a loan, sell your car, whatever you have to do. The decision is yours and you must live with it - no one else. You may decide lap band or the OCC is not right for you, but you just may - and we'll all be here to support you no matter what! All my best, Amber
nothereanymore
Great point Amber - I wasted 20 years! Don't do it! Congrats on taking your first step, (looking to make that change is step one), taking action is the next one! Don’t wait too long and I did this on my own, you sound like you’ve got it together and can do the same so good luck! Lisa
mlgpdx
Good morning Jeni! Welcome to the forum. I also am looking out my kitchen window at this dreary day in Ptown I've been banded over 8 months now and it was the BEST decision I ever made. Everyone here will support you and answer any questions you have. There are alot of Oregon/Washington bandsters! have a great day Mindy
JazzyJude
Hi Jeni! WELCOME to this forum and congrats with your decision in having the band. DON'T WAIT and waste more time. When you get your financials in order, get the surgery as soon as you can. You will NOT regret this at all! Most of the people here were banded by Dr O or Dr Martinez at OCC, in TJ, as this forum is OCC's. The majority of the people go to TJ due to it's less than $8000 to have it done PLUS the credientials Dr O and his staff have. But regardless as to where you have it done, just don't waste any more precious time if you can. I've been banded last month and it is the BEST decision I ever made for myself. I am finding I am reaching these small goals of mine faster than I've ever dreamed of. Just this morning, I threw away a pair of pants because they're too big and I just realized I was pushing out my tummy to hold them up! WONDERFUL feeling really! At OCC, they come first class to me as far as patient care! The clinic is very clean and the staff is just wonderful! They cater to your needs at all times. Come to this forum for any quesitons or concerns you may have, we are one big family here.
CindyLou
I am an RN and work in adminstration at a very good hospital. I woud say the care I got at the OCC was the same quality as I would here. Actually, I think the care was more personal and I felt very spoiled and catered to. As soon as I had my daughter at 21, I just kept gaining and gaining. The sad thing is I put off taking a professional picture with my daughter and I, because I wanted to lose weight and that never happened. She is now 11 yrs old, and hopefully we'll finally get that picture next year after I am banded in Jan. Anyway, my point is, don't put it off. I wish I would have known about Lapband years ago. Money was an issue with me, but I was willing to sell my car or get 2 extra jobs if need be. Good luck!!
tlag
Welcome to the forum Jeni. Everybody thinks going to Mexico for surgery is so scarry, It was the best experience of my life. My 2 friends and I all went together and we are all nurses and we thought it looked very clean and was very safe and the care was awesome! I have diabetes and in the last month or two, I have stopped my diabetic meds and am doing great. I wish you the best of luck in whatever decision you make. If you do decide to go ahead with the band, I don't think you will regret it. Its the best thing I have ever done for myself. I just wish I would have done it along time ago. Best of luck
