Back pain!

Recommended Posts

Almost immediately after the surgery, but more in the last few days, I started to experience the aches and pains from a previous injury from a car accident, especially in my back. It's really bad! I don't know what's causing this exactly, if it's the gas or what.

Has anyone experienced back pain? It goes away temporarily when I lie on a heating pad, but when I get off it, it comes right back!

It's your gas issue. I've a previous injury plus I have an extra lower lumbar vertabrae and the gas inside me played havoc on me the first few days after surgery. BUT, I didn't have that much gas as I WALKED the whole night away after surgery and kept moving all the time.

Just don't sit for long periods and when you do sit, try some arms lifts, alternately, reaching upwards towards the ceiling. I stretch upwards are high as I can for about 5 seconds and do the other side. Do this about 5 times and then relax. I do this every time I sit to prevent any aches/pains and it has worked for me. Using a heating pad may help too.

Also, make sure you are taking in your water every day as this helps the kidneys AND prevent back aches/pains as well.

Hope this helps...

Did any of you fly home after your surgery? I am wondering how it goes on the airplane. Can any of you let me know of your experience and what you did? I appreciate it. Anne

I just want to cry, the back pain is so bad today. I went for a slow 15-minute walk, and I was practically limping on my way back home. It hurts when I walk, when I sit, when I stand, when I lie down. The only time it doesn't hurt is when I'm lying on a heating pad, but then the gas starts to bother me when I'm in that position! What really gets me is that after my accident, it took more than two years for my back pain to stop being chronic, and by the time I had the surgery, I had improved so much that I was almost my old self again. My back rarely bothered me. To feel it coming back like this, to feel like I did in the months after that car accident is just so depressing.

Sorry for the rant, I'm having a bad moment.

Sweetheart ~ I was the exact way! But you WILL feel relief soon. Don't forget, you just had major surgery and you still need some time to heal from the surgery itself and you are still bloating which pushing your tummy out, which hurts the back. HANG IN THERE...it will subside. Continue with the heating pad, is what I did, even when sitting on my lounge chair in the livingroom. If it REALLY get so bad, call the dr for assistance.

Are you doing any better this morning? I am sorry that you are having such pain! Is there anyone around that could help you or take you to a doctors to get you some pain medication? I sure hope you are feeling better. Maybe a warm soak in the bathtub could temporarily help you feel better.

I feel slightly better today than yesterday. It seems like this is just part of the healing process unfortunately. Hopefully when my stomach swelling goes down (I honestly feel like I've got a water-filled balloon in there!) it will stop pulling my back muscles.
