vangirl
I haven't lost very much weight since my surgery 1 week ago - maybe 1lb or so. In fact, I gained about 7lbs the day I got back home. But there's still swelling, and my body is adjusting, and I'm not worried about my rate of weight loss (yet). The important thing is, I'm below 250 today - 249.8 to be exact! I know it's such a slight drop, but that milestone has impacted me in a bigger way, because I know it's a sign of things to come. It really makes all the pain and discomfort I've been experiencing post-surgery worth it!
determination
Vangirl, We will have to communicate with each other. I am having mine on the 15th. Do you think this is normal to not lose weight the first week? I was wondering how soon we start to lose weight. Anne
JazzyJude
YAY!!! That is awesome! So glad to see that this small little goal has come to you sooner than you expected. Isn't it great? I lost 10 lbs, in 10 days post op. Anything is possible for anyone and every person's body is so different. Some lose more and some lose less. You CANNOT compare with others because their body is totally different than yours! Remember this, so if you think you are not losing as fast as the others, consider the body frame, gender, how much the person weighed starting, etc. Just go with your own pace and cheer YOUR success as you go. Coming on to the forum and posting YOUR personal NSV is fabulous! It is inspiring and it makes me want to keep focusing on my weight loss better! AFTER the first 21 days, it gets easier and you will lose the bloating and the gas bubbles, etc. You will then start to control your own body with the help of the band and portion control! This is the fun part! YOU have the control and the say so...no one else but YOU! YOU CAN DO THIS! Awesome post and thanks for sharing your first little, reachable, goal!!! ((HUGS!)) WTG! vangirl
Thanks JazzyJude (((hugs))) ) Anne, my weight loss has been a lot slower compared to what others have reported. JazzyJude for example lost 10lbs in 10 days, and I've just lost 1lb in the first week. And pre-op, people were reporting losses of 30lbs in a month, 10lbs in 2 weeks, etc. and mine was a lot slower than that. I did everything by the book and didn't cheat once, so that was frustrating. So it's really hard to say what is normal weight loss because there are such differences in each person's experience. I was quite constipated and retaining water the first four days after surgery, and I'm still swollen in the abdomen, which might account for my slow weight loss. Or my body just has trouble letting go for whatever reason. But as long as the scale keeps going down, I'll be happy. It was so nice to see it in the 240s for the first time since 2003, so that hugely overshadowed the fact that it's just been a 1lb weight loss post-op. vangirl
Sorry to keep blabbing on, but you know what else is amazing? I have never revealed my weight to any person except my family doctor who would force me onto the scale every now and then. Even my ex-bf whom I was with for eight years never knew how much I weighed. It's the first time in my life that I've actually been able to open with people about my weight, and not have to hide it in shame. Granted, it's online, but for me it's a really huge thing to be telling people what the numbers are. What was once a shameful secret I hid for years can now be shared without fear of negative reaction and judgment. It's so freeing!

I am so comfortable talking about my weight here, that it actually has me opening up about my weight at home and with people face to face now too! Really, like they can't tell how much I weigh? But it was still hard to say it out loud. This place has given me a lot of strength for which I am grateful!

Savor it and then move on......down that is, LOL!! Seriously, it is very common not to lose weight the first week you are home. You are swollen inside, retaining some water and I bet you haven't had much time on the toilet either. Most of us have gone through the same thing, especially the toilet part! One day soon, you are gonna drop a bomb in the toilet and then you will see the scale move! For some reason, most people have a hard time eliminating that extra few pounds stuck in the colon after banding. But eventually, it will come out and VOILA! There you will see yourself lose weight instantly! And don't get grossed out or embarrassed. We have had the 'toilet' talk here lots of times. Just means we are all normal and experiencing the same things, LOL!! Give yourself a few days and you will see the pounds drop.

It's becasue we talk about it so freely here and there is NO JUDGEMENT just encouragement.

jhawkchick75
I know it is hard, but I would encourage you not to get on the scale right after surgery. I did when I got home, and had gained 7 lbs and it really bummed me out. So after that I didn't get on the scale for about a week or so. After about a week, the weight started coming off for me. But like everyone said we are all different. Now that i'm on solids I haven't lost and actually gained about a pound to 2 lbs depending on the day. But again, I don't let that stress me out. I know once the fills start coming that the scale will start going down again. Don't let it stress you out - it will work!!
