navygirl
I had my surgery on Nov. 7 and took a week off work. I have a very physically demanding job. This week has been exceptionally bad and today the spot where the port is is almost as sore as when I first had the surgery. Is it possible I damaged something? You shouldn't be doing any heavy duty activities at this point but to relax and rest your body and band. You just had major surgery and your body is rebelling with this new change. You NEED to make time to rest and heal properly. Is there a way to work around your physical activities for the short while? You want to progress with getting your strength back and physical activities, as well as eating.
navygirl
I will be seeing the bariatric nurse in the morning. She's going to check to see if I've flipped the port.
shrty835
I work at a desk and ive been banded for 6 months now and still from time to time I have some soreness at my port site. When I went to the doctor he said that it was because of the placement, but not to worry. Let us know how it goes.
my_friend_amber
Yeah, we are told to lay off ab exercises for a whole 3 months after surgery so that the stomach muscles around the port can fully heal, so I'm sure that anything that is very physically demanding will involve your core muscles (abs) - I'm sure everything will work out fine and that you're just very sore from the work, but do let us know! We all wish you the best!!
navygirl
I feel a little better today altho still taking some pain meds again. At least the swelling has gone down. I talked to the bariatric coordinator last night and she just thought that i had aggravated the muscles around the port. If I'm still sore Monday I'll probably go have it looked at. tlag
good luck. I'm sure things are fine. I had a flipped port and did not have pain with it, so hard to say. May just be pain from the muscle like they said. Keep us posted how u are doing.
jhawkchick75
Please be very careful! It was my understanding that we shouldn't be lifting anything over 10lbs for 6 weeks. I confided in a couple of people at work and asked them to help me out during that time and they were all very supportive. Now, that i'm past that point I have to keep reminding them b/c they keep trying to help me! Guess I should milk it for all it's worth huh! Trav
nothing over 25lbs for 3mos, but some heal faster than others...don't push yourself.
