Question about Pre-op Diet Option #2

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I contacted Dr. Miranda over the weekend by email, and she replied back today saying I need to start Pre-Op option #2. I am really freaking out about this pre-op diet, only because I don't like lean cuisines (frozen dinners in general). Has anyone ever substituted? I was thinking of maybe doing a chicken breast in the George Foreman grill with some veggies, wouldn't that be just as healthy if not healthier then a lean cuisine. What do you guys think?

By the way, getting a response from Dr. Miranda today made me so excited..lol...because 4 weeks from this Thursday it will be my turn to be banded!! Up until now, it seemed like a dream.

OH! I found my soulmate - LOL! I don't like the lean cuisines either. I did the 'other' option Dr. Miranda suggested, which is on your paperwork, to have salads and I added, on different days, hard boilded eggs, cheese, deli meats, etc. to all together for a Cobb salad-like and used those Wishbone salad spray dressings. A couple of days, I did the steaks and chicken in my Geroge Foreman grill, like you were thinking, in addition to a mini salad.

Don't forget the Metamucil capsules at 10am and 3pm to help with the hunger pangs ~ they really worked for me.

OK...good luck!!! Soon you will be on the 'other' side, to Bandland and be a bandster! HOO RAH!!

Excellent. Thanks so much for the ideas.

Also, she mentioned to take 'chromium picolinate'. I have never heard of that before.

Oh, and about the Metamucil capsules, my mom takes metamucil because she has IBS (or something like it), and so I always thought of metamucil as something you take to keep you regular. Taking it to control hunger pangs, won't make my stomach all twisted up, will it? :lol

Oh no, you are quite safe with the capsules! Also, I take the chewable Fiber Choice (Weight Managment) in Strawberry flavor (real good!) which has the chromium picolinate in them! I use this for the hunger pangs AFTER the surgery for the same thing as Metamucil. Best not to get use to large capsules once you are banded, could get stuck and that is NOT a good thing.

I use Benefiber for the rotor rooter problem (smile). I get the chewables as well and it's Orange Creme in flavor...again, good and it helps alot! I also use the unflavored powder to put in my soups, drinks, etc. It dissolves in seconds and leaves NO residue at all!

I would ask Dr. M, but I would think as long as you are very strict on your portions, you could do what you said with the chicken and veggies. I know I do the weight watchers and lean cuisine meals, but they taste fine to me. I need them though b/c it keeps me honest on my portions. I start "estimating" and before you know it my portion sizes get bigger and bigger!

Good luck! I know I was in this group for months before my time came and I saw a lot of people come and go before me, so yes when you start on pre-op it sure makes it a lot more real! :D

That is why it is so important to MEASURE what you eat. I have my measuring cups and scale always available nearby so I can quickly measure out my portions before I site down to eat. It is quick and easy and you know you can eat only what's on your plate/bowl and no more "seconds". There's no guessing of "was this 1/4 cup of veggie or 3 oz of meat?". Get into the habit of knowing your portion size right away, so if and when you do go out to eat, you will know how much to eat and pack the rest to go home with.
