Day prior to surgery Pig Out!

Recommended Posts

I hate to admit this.....Here it is the day before surgery. I've lost 5 pounds on the pre op diet. Combine that with this need (emotional) for some desperate eating.......I keep finding myself going back into the kitchen thinking "eat it now and get it out of my system", the next trip to the kitchen "I hate to have to throw it out", next "one more bite won't hurt".

Now that I'm full, I feel terrible.......pretty much a feeling I have almost daily when I overeat.

Can anyone relate?

Totally did the same thing! I did kind of a farewell tour of sorts with my favorite places before my pre-op. I was really good on pre-op and then the night before my procedure my mom and I had seafood in San Diego. I had no problems the next day, but they do say don't go too nuts the night before. To be honest, I ate wayyy too much, but it was still a lot less than i would have eaten in the past. My stomach had shrunk some b/c of the pre-op. I wouldn't have eaten quite that much, but I was banded a day early and wasn't planning on being done that day.

YES! I am getting banded on January 2nd and the reality of not being able to big out of my favorites in the future is so foreign to me, I am starting pre-op in a week and I told my boyfriend last night that for the next week we need to eat my favorite foods everynight. Its bad I know but I dont know how I am going to handle no more Chipotle, or Black Tie Pasta from Claim Jumper and the Chicken Mediera at Cheese Cake Factory...oh my its sad. But the benefit in health and waist size will be well worth it, its just sort of like a culture shock I guess...I think I will narrow it down to one last meal, instead of all week. :D

Okay, this must be the column for "true confessions". Today at work (I am on my lunch break) Clients come bearing gifts of kindness, you know. SUGAR. My addiction - chocolate in the form of fudge. I have been super good with this pre-op diet. Haven't gone off of it once. BUT...........I just had a piece of fudge, not little either. I told myself I better eat it now, because I won't be seeing it for awhile. I also plan to go to Red Lobster the night before I fly out. I am flying out of Idaho, that is the nearest airport. They also have wonderful restaurants. So here is to a fond (ugh) farewell. Cheers to losing! Anne

I did the same thing before PRE-OP. I went to EVERY one of my favorite Restaurants.... Chili's, Don Pable's, Sammies Bar B Q... Those of you in Fort Worth, know its a dang good restaurant!!! Every Beverage that I put in my mouth was SODA... Either Coke, Dr. Pepper, or Pepsi. Even at dinner and I NEVER did that before, I always had tea.... I was horrible. But now, I can no longer say I eat out every night. I usually go out once a week now, and even thats hard, cause i have to order the kids menu and go from there... But yes it will ALL be worth it in the end!!!

You all are just about the sweetest bunch of ladies! Thank you, I feel so much better I'm not the only one!

My mom has been so good about sticking to her pre-op diet I just couldn't tell her what I did today,......which was eat 2 days worth of junk food, and M&M's.....I felt so guilty, thanks for easing my mind!

OK...guess I am going to put a damper on this and be the first person posting that I didn't cheat...not once. Sad, huh? I was the opposite. I saved good, hard earning money for this surgery and I was NOT going to do anything to jeopardize my success.

BUT (there is always a but, eh? LOL)...you CAN have your favorite foods, AFTER your first 21 days post op AND in moderation. IF you feel you don't have the willpower to eat the food, then turn away and move on. You WILL eat your favorite foods because this is a lifestyle change with healthier eating habits.

Now, personally, I am going to go to my favorite restaurants with those high caloric menus and pick a dish to enjoy, in moderation, of course. when I hit a plateau. This particular high calorie dish I would choose would help 'kick start' my weigh loss and go forward from there.

SO...do you feel better now? NOW ~ DON'T pig out before your surgery, that you worked so hard on your preop for. Remember the REASON for why you are on this preop...to minimize the fatty tissues around your liver and this is what the doctor base on which band to use on you.

It's ok, if you slipped - OOPS!. You already feel bad about it and you know it wasn't a good idea to do it, so be positive and motivate yourself to do better and move forward with this weight loss journey you pay good money on. It's ok to have the 'good' stuff, just not often.

KEEP A JOURNAL FOLKS! Trust me...this will help you keep on tract! Write down what you eat, write your feelings for the day, mark off your water as you drink, write down some small reachable goals and what exercises you've done. You will be AMAZE how well you do things when you write things down.

YOU CAN DO THIS...

Why do you think you can never go to these places again? The band is great because you can have things you love in moderation. Of course you don't want to go to Cheesecake Factory everyday, but an occasional eating out doesn't hurt anyone. Just the other day I went to one of my favorite places for mexican food, first time since surgery. I was only able to eat 1/2 an enchilada and very little rice and beans but I was satisfied.

I completely understand because I believe I had an emotional relationship with food and when I chose to be banded, the decision was to end my 'relationship' with this 'friend'. I loved food, still do but it was not a healthy relationship. If you have ever had a close relationship with someone, perhaps a boyfriend who you knew was unhealthy for you, yet it was difficult to get away from. I used food to make me feel good when times were tough, which in turn made be feel bad after I had overeaten.

My thoughts are that anyone who makes the decision to be banded is brave because it is a major decision, one that hurts on so many levels.

Bottom line is that you don't need to be so hard on yourself, just understand the relationship is plays in your life.

Does this make sense?

Good luck, you are about to enter a whole new better life!

I completely understand. Our life must change. BUT, at the same time we can't crawl in a shell and not go out with friends or social gatherings. When we go out we have to know how to make the right choices from the menu. Or if we want to have a plate of mexican food, you reward yourself and then get back to the program. I am down 33 lbs since my surgery and I never would have been able to do that without my Band. But, part of the reason I love it, is because I can still have the things I love, just in moderation now that I can control. Before, I felt like I had no control. Now, I feel like I have complete control. Trust me, I understand having a love for food. It was an addiction to me. Now most days, I don't care what I eat. But, there are some days that I want something in particular.

I followed my pre-op diet pretty well... but, I had my moments. I would substitute a Lean Cuisine for Taco Bell (bean burrito and pinto-s and cheese) once in awhile... and, I did eat Thanksgiving dinner with my family. We went to the movie on Thanksgiving Day and I had a pickle and Red Vines. Before my pre-op diet, I visited several of my favorite restaurants. I had planned on yummy Mexican food the night before my surgery. But, I ended up getting banded a day early. When they first asked me if I would have my surgery right-then-and-there my thought was, "BUT I WAS GOING TO EAT TONIGHT!" Oh well, not too much of a biggie. I'm looking forward to Mexican food after my 21 day post-op diet.

Weeeelll, I was NOT the NORM. I gained 10 lbs I had so much fun eating the last three weeks before surgery. Dr. Miranda was not real happy with me..but, I did enjoy myself. I highly doubt that they will NOT take your money. Good luck and DO NOT beat up on yourself.

oodles, C

I followed the pre-op diet 100%, I was scared to death that they would turn me away, plus like Jazzy said I was going to pay to much money for what is going to be a life changing deal. And since I was going to change my life for good, why mess up at the beginning. But thats just me.
