Medicines

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I have a question. Ive read we should take liquid medicines because pills can get stuck or cause ulcers. Well I dont take alot of medicines. Usually just Pamprin or Midol for a few days a month. Tylenol doesnt do a thing for cramps for me.... so how do you all make it without these?

Also, how are cramps after banding? Mine are usually awful for just a day or two then i dont have any and I wondered if the band affected this....

Ironically - I should be dealing with this a few days after surgery so I would like some info to prepare! lol

Thanks :)

You can get a pill crusher/splitter at any drug store and still take any meds as long as they aren't time released. If they are time released and they arent huge, you can take them anyway. Dr. Miranda told me that if a pill can fit through then end of a straw (just a measure, don't use the straw...lol) then I could take it whole.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Cindylou,

If thats the case what is the issue with everyone taking liquid tylenol instead of taking normal tylenol?

Thats great news though! I was at the store last night looking over medicines trying to figure out which ones come in liquid lol

well, if there is a liquid choice I would ALWAYS go with the liquid. Especially the first few days after surgery, believe me you will not feel like swallowing a pill. Its hard to swallow enough water to get it down. I used the liquid tylenol and ibuprofen up until just a few days ago because its just more comfortable.

The point being, if there is no liquid choice, then use the straw rule and if if its larger, then split or crush.

I have taken all of my medication whole... Tylenol included. And, have had no issues. I don't do well with liquid medications... again, texture issues.

I don't have problems with any of my pills and I take a lot. I am also very tight now and they still slip through. The only problem I had was with my HUGE antibiotic I had to take when I got bit by a cat. All I did was cut it in 4's and no problem.

Does anyone if I can take meds the morning of the surgery? I take Cymbalta and birth control every morning and with either of these I get into kind of a weird funk if I don't take them daily. Especially the Cymbalta and it's in capsule form so I can't cut it in half. Also I'll need it ASAP after the surgery. Any info??

You are supposed to stop taking all medications the day before surgery. However, I took my meds that morning that I flew out... and, they moved my surgery up and banded me that same day. From my point of view, it is okay. But, email the doctor to find out for sure.
