dawn1230
I'm hoping all you experienced bandsters out there can tell me more about the following items - 1. Slime-ing - what is it, what does it feel like and what causes it? 2. PB - what is it, what does it feel like and what causes it? 3. Gumming Up - what is it, what does it feel like and what causes it? 4. What happens when something gets stuck? How do you know it's stuck? What causes something to get stuck? Thank you in advance for sharing your information and experiences. Dawn
Kensgirl
Do searches in the forums. These are all well documented already, just need to pull them up and read. The problem you will have is that many people offer their interpetations and quasy medical advice which often times is inaccurate and down right dangerous. Don't be afraid to search for the truth, it's out there.

jhawkchick75
I'm very lucky I have not slimed or PB'ed yet, but what I can tell you is that it is very hard to explain well because for every person it is different. From what I know the reasons it happens are across the board, but other than that everyone is so different. For those that are newer, one thing that really helped me was the search option. If you look at the top right hand side of the page, you will see a search link. You can put in terms like "slime" "PB" "Stuck" and things like that. I know that has helped me a lot. HOpefully these things will be something that are few and far between, but are an unfortunate part of our bands. Take care-

Kensgirl
I already searched and wasn't able to find a thread that answered all my questions throughly about all of the above topics - no real details that I could find. That's because they took down all the great postings from Jann and kittycat.
lovinlifedfw
That is true. Dawn, there WERE two wonderful ladies on this site, who helped out ANYONE & EVERYONE. No matter if it meant they had to do some research themselves. Not to get you mixed up in stuff, but there are a few on here who haven't lost weight in a while, and are telling people how to eat, what to eat, and when to eat. Hence, is the reason why their not losing any weight. If you ever need help, anyone on here is willing to help you. Me, Jazzy, shrty835, and Kensgirl, all have learned quite a few things from Cathy and Jann so feel free to ask us... or post a topic again, if you ever have another issue, cause some people will be willing to help. tnm75
Dawn, Everyone is different, but this is my understanding: PB stands for Productive Burp. It happens when something is eaten that can't go down due to restriction, and it has to come back up. Slime is what your body produces when it is trying to pass something through the band. It's very thick saliva and basically it the comes up and you have to spit it out. Gumming up is what happens when you eat something that expands, such as bread. Dr. Miranda said that those types of foods are what you need to avoid. When something gets stuck, well I have heard that it hurts like hell. It will eventually come up via PB or make its way through the band. Either way, stop eating and allow the band to work. Kristy
JazzyJude
I'm hoping all you experienced bandsters out there can tell me more about the following items - 1. Slime-ing - what is it, what does it feel like and what causes it? 2. PB - what is it, what does it feel like and what causes it? 3. Gumming Up - what is it, what does it feel like and what causes it? 4. What happens when something gets stuck? How do you know it's stuck? What causes something to get stuck? Thank you in advance for sharing your information and experiences. Dawn Hi Dawn...I am hoping I can assist you. PB stands for "Productive Burping". PBing is when food gets stuck in your esophagus or chest and your body creates a 'slime' to move it up or out. It is your body's way of trying to move the food up or down, which is "sliming". If it moves up. you have PBed and are spitting out slime and food...otherwise, you swallow it all down to your stomach. To prevent this from happening, take small bites, chew real good, and eat slowly. Don't just take a big bite, chew a few times and swallow whole, which you will risk feeling pain and your body will reject it this movement. The term gumming up means certain foods, such as bread or pasta, after chewing and chewing, becomes 'gummy' and it forms together to become a mass of food. So to prevent this is to take small bites of food, chew it, and swallow it before taking another bite. If you swallowed food or drink and feel this tightness in your chest, this is your clue, that something is stuck because you: > are not taking smaller bites. Cut your food to the size of a dime to prevent food lodging > are not properly chewing the food down before swallowing. Chew at least 30 times to small, small particles > are not eating slowly. Put your fork down between bites and don't rush > after you had your fill and you ate solid food when you should be doing full liquids first. You don't know how your fill is going to be and should't risk expanding your pouch or even slip your band. Progress your food intake, start off with liquids and then gradually go up to solids I am sure there are some other issues that can contribute to food being stuck, etc, and hoping the older bandsters will assist as well. Hope this helps a bit...
