my_friend_amber
Okay, so I am finding myself standing on the scale every single morning, and even sometimes at night after workouts. Am I nuts? I've heard some people say they weigh every day so that they can stay on top of whether they're losing steadily, standing still, or (lord forbid) gaining. Others it seems only weigh weekly, or maybe just when the mood strikes them to do so. What do you guys do? What seems to work best for you and why? Also, is anyone out there measuring? I think those initial measurements could be really encouraging (especially in those times when the scale just isn't showing you the love you deserve) but how often, if at all, are you guys measuring? Thanks in advance!!
shrty835
I only get on the scale on Monday mornings, hubby hides it after that. It can control youre life if you dont put a stop to it now girl. And I did the measurements(spelling) the day before the surgery and at 5 months also. I think that there was a post on it. Or maybe its on the other site I go to. But its good if you do. I have lost 22 inches total all around.
CindyLou
I weigh every morning, but it only "counts" and gets recorded on my ticker if I've lost. Because I'm weighing every day I know there will be little ups and downs. But I LOOK FORWARD to weighing every morning. And my husband gets a kick out of me parading to the kitchen buck naked to get on the scale.
lovinlifedfw
I find myself at times getting on the scale at least 3 times a day. It just depends on you. Get on the scale whenever you want. If you find yourself becoming obsessed with the scale, lay off a couple of days. A very wise lady that used to be on this site always said she gets on the scale once a day. That way if she gains a pound, she knows what she did the day before, and will correct it next time. I used to get on the scale once a week. Now, its whenever i want. Some people wait til they go to their dr. some want to know. Like I said its up to you!!! Kimmy in MD
I weigh once or twice a week, except after a fill, then I weigh just about daily because I tend to lose quickly after a fill. I LOVE IT WHEN THE SCALE IS MOVING DOWN QUICKLY!!! About measurements....I SO WISH I HAD MEASURED BEFORE MY SURGERY!!! It would have been very motivational to see the change in the inches....but alas, I did not. The first time I measured was at my first fill. My fill doc does the measurements and takes a "before" photo for her file at your first fill. However, at the second fill, I was like, aren't you going to measure again? and they were like no, we only do it at the first fill, but if you want us to we will, so of course I said yes, please measure, well they said my waist increased by 2 inches between fills, but I was down 2 sizes from the 1st fill, so I don't think their measuring was all that accurate. I found it depressing!! Good Luck!!
tnm75
I weigh every morning... blah. Remember to weight yourself at the same time of day, because your weight can vary so much during the day. Kristy
jhawkchick75
I think each person is different. For some, weighing every day might be tough b/c you might get really frustrated if you are up a bit one day. I used to be that way, but i've come to grips that i'm a lady and that it's gonna go up and down a bit. I do get on the scale each day, but it only counts on Wednesdays. Also, from day to day if it is fluctuating I don't let it impact how much I eat or what - I stick to the plan! But if from each Wed to Wed it's going up or not down enough then i'll evaluate my diet. Be very aware of yourself and if mentally it is really impacting you to weight too much then don't do it. But if it works for you then by all means go for it! jhawkchick75
Oh and forgot to mention I REALLY wish I would have measured too. There are so many times where you are are not losing weight, but are losing inches and mentally that can be a real boost! I can tell i've lost a lot of inches by the way my pants fit, but it would have been nice to say how many inches i've lost too.

I'm losing in my tummy area and my pants are now longer... and, I keep stepping on them. Kristy
jhawkchick75
Me too!!!! At first I was scared I was shrinking - hell i'm only 5'2! But of course it is my pants riding lower. Good thing I have big ole hips that way they don't fall down!
nothereanymore
I get on the evil thing every morning, its a problem and I'm trying to stop myself from doing it - my goal is to only get on it once a week. Once I get to that point - I know I've made it. I never measured myself – don’t know why but never did it. I’m more focused on what size I can wear and how things fit. BandDiva
I weigh myself daily and don't think of it as evil or negative...it's a tool to help me stay on track...if I am up a bit, I get my butt in gear and do better, if it's down, I celebrate!! I measure monthly on the 10th. NSV are important too. So on those days when the scale is not showing what you want it to, focus on the non-scale victories. Remember, it took months or years to become overweight and it may take that long to get it off!! DITTO DITTO DITTO!!! I don't see how a scale can be evil. We are supposed to be conquering obesity! I weigh everyday. If my weight goes up, I look at what I ate. Sodium, etc. and I DO NOT repeat it the next day. I feel like by doing this, I will never gain my weight again! I am absolutely creating new habits and if I weigh once a week, or once a month, or whatever, eventually I will let it slip and I could be one of these people who puts on her weight. NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!
nothereanymore
For me personally - it can be. I unfortunately can let how I feel about myself be based on the numbers on the scale. And I know that’s silly. I’m thin, wear small clothes, and I will still get on the scale and if I’ve gained a few, and I can in 24 hours depending on my weird body and if I’m working out….. I’ll be in a crappy mood based on those dang numbers. I hate that and think its silly – but its most likely just me. I’m trying not to look at the numbers, but how I feel and if I can fit into my clothes, and that I’m healthy and active. But I’m also in a different place than you are, I’m done, and working at a different level, I don’t think I could be in this position when I was right in the middle of my program. So I totally get it. My goal is to never look at a scale; every thin person I know barely weighs themselves and I’m hoping to hit that level someday. I want to wake up and not think about stepping on the scale – because I know I’m good and I don’t have to worry about it. That’s just my personal goal but we’re all different. yoyodieter
OMG Anne Marie, you are so you beautiful!!! you look so familar have I meet you somewhere before? Were you in TJ either in January or May??? Or maybe I have seen your picture somewhere. You look way thinner than a 43 BMI, You must carry your weight well, I had to laugh, I noticed you put your band date down on the roll call as 10/6, but you said you were banded On June 10th my husband pointed out you must of been born in CANADA, thats how they do their dates, he is a proud Canadian, any who,, I haven't weighed myself in a month. I was a slave to the scale for many years. and find that they discourage me. I find that I am much better off not weighing myself daily and just step on the scales once a month. Hope everyone is enjoying the Holidays. PS my step daughter looks your age and her name Is Anne Marie as well. (30)
mlgpdx
I weigh myself every morning but only record my weight loss/gain on Monday's. I just got back from being on vacation for almost 2 weeks.. the FIRST thing I did when I got home was weigh myself! lol no scales where I was. I actually dropped 4 pounds while on VACATION! A first for me. I agree with Lisa that all my "skinny" friends don't know exactly how much they weigh.. some never get on the scale... they just don't think about it. While I don't think I could ever go that far I would like to not be such a slave to the scale. This 2 weeks without getting on it really was an eye opener for me. Guest CaraMBA09
Hi Linda,Thank you so much for the compliment, you are so sweet and perceptive..I am Canadian, I grew up in the Ottawa area and moved to New York after I got married, my husband is American!! I don't believe we have met at the OCC in January or May, I was banded in June, which was my first time down there. I haven't been back since. I have my fills here in New York by Dr. Kurian. It was beautiful there, but I just don't have the time to travel back and forth. I understand what you are saying about being a slave to the scale...sometimes I feel that way too..but have decided to use it to my advantage. My BMI is actually lower than I originally posted, I forgot to update my height properly I guess, I have fixed it and it looks much better now!! LOL!! Happy Holidays to you too!! Anne Marie I weigh myself when I think of it and when the pants get looser...I measure myself...so far, two inches off my waistline. Now just 15 more inches to go!
