PamE
I was banded on Tuesday and I think a pill got stuck. I though it was small enough, obviously it wasn't! My chest, neck and upper back felt like a heart attack (or what I assume a heart attack might fell like) My arms felt so heavy I couldn't move them. I've been up all night, scared to death and thinking I might need to go to the emergency room. I'm started sipping on diluted fruit juice. It is finally stating to subside. VERY SCARED!!! That doesn't sound right. How big was the pill? I would most definitely get in touch with a Dr. immediately.I know I was able to take pills after surgery, I have had 1 fill and can still take small pills and capsules (tylenol) I have not attempted anything bigger. I must agree with Dana. I take 4 pills each morning since 1 day post op without any problems. Dr Miranda told me there was no restriction until your first fill. I hope you fell better. Yep, I am over 2 months post op and I can still take all of my pills and the largest gel capsule is my fish oil, which is 1" long. I've had a fill last month and so far, I still have no problems. Please check with your doctor on this, this doesn't sound like the norm right after surgery. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.
ackovach
I have 2 fills so far. Great restriction. My pills get stuck all the time. Stuck so bad I throw everything solid or liquid til the pill passes through the band. It is horrible. I got a pill splitter to take care of the problem. On my first 21 days, I crushed al lmy pills and put them in yogurt.
PamE
I called the Dr Liu first thing in the am and he said all pills must be crushed. Is it OK to have yogurt (to put the crushed pills in) during the first couple of weeks?
Amanda2008
that sounds extreme. Did you drink anything when you took the pill to wash it down? Maybe everything was dry and it got "snagged" against your stoma wall...
Karleigh
I would also suggest crushing your pills for a little while. The reason it could have gotten stuck is because everyone takes longer to heal after the surgery, and every body reacts differently to foreign object. The stomach underneath and around the band could have still been swollen, and that could be the cause of the lodging. However, such extreme bodily reactions don't sound like would it would be like if a pill got stuck. If it was only a few days after surgery, it could have been the CO2 still stuck in your body, because that heart attack pain is the same pain you're feeling when the bubbles press on your internal organs. That comes straight from my mom who's been a nurse for close to 40 years. Again, I would talk to your doctor, he'll probably have better advice.
