aub
I have had my band for a little over 2 years now. Everything was going great, I was 210 when I got the band put in, and 6 months ago I was 140. Six months ago I went to get a fill I already had 2.8 cc's in my band, and when she checked to see how much I had in there it was empty. So, she filled me to 3 cc's I went back a month later and nothing. We continued this 2 other times, and each time it was empty. When I left there each time I was restricted, so I just dont get this. Today I went in and did some sort of MRI to see where it was leaking, and nothing!!! The doctor tried for 2 hours, he had me get up and walk around and move around and no leak. He had my band so restricted I could barely swallow. He tried everything he could, and yet no leak. So I am wondering how this would happen, because if the doctor was missing my port I would not have felt any restriction when I left there. Am I just going crazy? Has this happened to anyone else? Cannon
It could be a very small leak like a pin hole that isn’t noticed right away but takes days, weeks or even months for the liquid to seep out. I think that since you have tried several times with getting filled and going back with nothing in the band, it’s time to get a new band. Ask your doctor if they agree. If not, they demand that they check into this further!
nothereanymore
Hello, Just one more suggestion. There’s also something thicker that they can put in the band if you have a slow leak that will hold the fill longer. I don’t know what it is, but I know it’s worked for others who had slow leaks. I’d check that out first to see if it holds before a new surgery. Make sure you ask your doctor about it. All the best and sorry for this! my_friend_amber
I just had a thought... are you anxious about needles of fills? Are you freaking out on subsequent fills because you're afraid you have a leak? For me at least, stress or anxiety can bring on the feeling of being so very restricted. Is it possible that it's your anxiety making you feel the restriction and not the actual fill? Because if so, then it's possible that you've been having your port missed (for some people, a lot of scar tissue forms and it can feel like hitting the port when you're actually hitting the scar tissue) and haven't actually been getting fills at all. I have no idea if this is what is happening to you, but it's just a thought! Also, have you been going back to the OCC for these fills? I would go back there, even though it's expensive and time-consuming, just to let Dr. Ortiz and Dr. So, etc. check you out themselves. Thinking of you and wishing you the very best! ~Amber
feefee
This sounds just like what was doing. When they did it under x-rays, still no leakage. The last I went for my fill it should have had about 5 cc but nothing was there. They decide the port might be leaking and I told them to replace it. After then replacement it was checked and it was leaking around the edge of port. They told me where it was leaking it could not have been detected. Now that it has been replaced everything is great.
